3 short film analysis

Eden- 3 minute film short film

This film is a 3 minute film where there is a story of two brothers on a journey in a world decimated
from disease, in order to find a cure, to save people. There are many shots used to show the film in
the best way.

The film begins with a tracking shot and the sound of metal wall being scraped with a pole, this is
done to cause tension, this makes the audience feel on edge. This makes it apparent to the audience
that the storyline of a world decimated disease is very
big and has a really big effect on society in this film due
to the tension shown. This shows that it is clearly an
action film because of the tension being created.

There is lots of cinematography used within this film, the first piece of camera work used is a
tracking shot this starts of the film and sets the tone for the film. This
is used to in introduce the characters into the film, and to show the
storyline which is two brothers. Then there is an over the shoulder
shot to show the two characters talking to each other this is done to
maybe show how the brother is looking after his younger brother, we
can see this through the facial expressions that the older brother has
when the camera is focusing on him through the over the shoulder
shot.

Miss en scene- There is mainly one location used within this film, it is located in one filed with loads
of corn growing, this location is very isolated, this will add to the tension of the film because it is just
the two brothers alone in a sketchy location. There is also a short clip of a building which is very
isolated and matches the field location. Both of these locations cause tension and sketchiness. The
colour used are very dark and gloomy, the costumes there wearing the colour of the building etc.
There is hardly any props used within the film, this is due to the fact that they are so isolated nothing
is about so it would not make it realistic if there were lots of films used.
Sound- There is sound used throughout the film, the first bit of sound used is a sound of a pole on a
metal fence, this sounds add to the tension of the [film because this sound is very sketchy and it is
an isolated sound. Then there is dialogue asking where the cars are and there is none about but
there is sound added in of the sound of cars to show how mysterious the film is and why the tension
keep building. This makes the audience on edge. In addition there is sound to make the film feel
realistic ,for example the rustling of the corn in the field is made to make the film feel realistic.

Editing – There are a few cuts used but not many, from most of the film there is a tracking shot used
to show the brothers trying to work something out and then there are cuts used to show how the
characters are moving and the actions that they are taking within the film. This is to show there
facial expressions and what there charcteristics are like

The film begins with a two-shot camera shot which shows two people who look like they are ready
for combat. They are wearing body armour and are holding guns and look like they are ready for
action. We know there is going to be some action through the use of the prop which is the gun. This
makes it apparent that right at the start of the film it shows the audience it is an action film.

The film is all about action between

enemies and is full with fighting scenes
to put that audience on edge and make
them feel attracted to the film and its
makes the film enjoyable for the
audience because there is so much
going on. The film reflects the genre
really well because there are lots of
typical conventions of an action film
within the film.
There is a scene where there is a
shooting scenes which lasts a long time and in this scene the camera work and sound is really
effective the sound that is put in makes the scene feel so realistic it feels like you could be there and
the camera work is excellent with a variety of shots like long shots and over the shoulder shots.
There are lots of editing techniques used there are lots of cuts used to switch from scene to scene to
show all the action going on. There is also a shot reverse shot in the film to show the emotions of the
characters when the fighting scenes are going on in the film, to show their emotions is very
important in the film because this can put across a lot of things about the characters within the film,
Then this means the audience can understand the character conventions and how they act.
There is a non diegetic sound in the film when there is the fighting scene the sound is a non-diegetic
sound which is a gunshot to show the firing of the gun and this makes it much more realistic to the
audience and this shows to the audience clearly what is going on which makes the film more
enjoyable for the customers.
The film does not link with tolorov theory because at the very start of the film there is a scene where
someone betrayals someone else and shoot them dead so this does not link with tolorov theory
because he believes there should be a happy start to the film. The first part of the film would be
what would be expected in the second part of tolorov theory which is the disruption part of the film.

Overall the film has many conventions that link with an action film which are the type of props that
are used that link with actions films such as the guns. Also the costumes that they are wearing are
very action type, they are in combat costumes ready for a fight. This is another convention of an
action film which is a fighting scene.
