Static and Dynamic Code Resources

- A minimum number of codes can be reserved for HSDPA

- Further code resources can be allocated dynamically to HSDPA
in dependence on the amount and priority of R99 traffic
- Code resources allocated to HSDPA must be adjacent

Upgrade of HSDPA Code Resources

- Upgrade of HSDPA code resources based on periodic monitoring of the traffic by the RNC
The period is either settable (Nokia) or hard coded (Ericsson, Huawei)
- If there are unused adjacent codes, these can be offered to HSDPA
The number of additional codes per upgrade is either settable (Nokia) or hard coded to 1 code
(Ericsson, Huawei), see last slide
- According Nokia upgrade allowed only, if afterwards still enough free codes of SF128 for voice (default 8 codes)
- According Huawei upgrade allowed only, if afterwards still one free code of a specific SF for R99 (default SF8)

Downgrade of HSDPA Code Resources

- According Ericsson HSDPA is downgraded immediately, if otherwise the setup

or upgrade of a DCH would be blocked
- According Nokia HSDPA is downgraded in the following cases
 DCH for voice would be blocked (immediate downgrade)
 DCH for NRT service would be blocked AND the number of codes actually
offered to HSDPA is very high (default at least 10 codes, immediate downgrade)
 Not enough codes of SF128 available for voice (default 8 codes)
The last criterion is checked periodically according HSPDSCHAdjustPeriod
- According Huawei HSDPA is downgraded in the following cases
 DCH for voice would be blocked (immediate downgrade)
 No code of specific SF available for R99 (default SF8)
The last criterion is checked periodically
- The number of HSDPA codes never is downgraded below the guaranteed minimum
