CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

This chapter illustrates the overview on the research methodology about

the approach and design of the study, the subject, the sampling design, and the

instrument to be used, procedure of data gathering, interpretation and statistical

tools selected for answering the questions of the research.

RESEARCH DESIGN

The research study that will be conducted is a correlational quantitative

study in nature. The collected data and are validated through numbers and

percentages. The conclusion of the research study will find the relationship

regarding the two variables used. The Independent variable (cannot be

manipulated) in this study is the Work Immersion Satisfaction Level of the

respondents. On the other hand, the dependent variable (can be affected by the

manipulation of the independent variable) is the perceived Self-Efficacy of the

respondents in accomplishing work throughout the Work Immersion process.

This research will follow descriptive research analysis. It will used because

it provides a concrete and concise illustration of originality. (Kothari, 2005).

Practical conditions are justified as this method is capable and responsible for

analyzing factual data depicting a specific phenomena, thereby establishing

interrelationships between the notable variables (Raghavendra, 2014).

RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY AND SAMPLING METHOD

The respondents of this study to be considered are all from the different

strands (STEM, ABM, HUMMS, GAS and TECH-VOC) of Grade 12 students.

These students were chosen from La Verdad Christian School, an institution in

Sampaloc, Apalit Pampanga which consists of 252 students.

To get the population size of this study, researchers used random sampling

method so that every students will have fair amount of chance to be subjected as

a respondent.

The researchers used a sample size calculator from a website called

Raosoft (http://www.raosoft.com/samplesize.html). The desired number of

population of this study were automatically calculated by Raosoft, getting a total

sample of 153 students. The students to be asked for gathering the data will consist

of 153 students, which will be randomly selected from different strands of Grade

12 on the said school.

Table 1 described the grade 12 respondents according to strand/section

and gender. The table shows that majority of the possible respondents were

female with 177 in total while possible male respondents are 75 in total which sums

up to a total population of 252 possible respondents.

Moreover, probable respondents came from different strands of different

sections including STEM A and B, ABM A and B, HUMSS A and B, GAS and

Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) in a total of 8 different sections.

Total sample of 153 out of total population of 252 was gathered. The table

shows that majority of respondents were female with 110 total sample while male

respondents are 43 samples.

The respondents came from different strands and it has revealed that 27

respondents of the sample are from STEM A, 29 respondents are from STEM B,

whereas 18 came from ABM A, 17 respondents from ABM B, 19 respondents came

from HUMMS A, 18 respondents came from HUMSS B, 14 from GAS and lastly

11 respondents from Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL).

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT AND VALIDITY OF THE TEST

The research instrument that will be used to gather the quantitative data or

the necessary basis for the results of this research is a survey questionnaire. This

will served as the main tool of conducting the study in gathering the data to 153

randomly selected students of Grade 12. The survey method is used because the

two variables in this study are based solely on the perception of the students. Using
LA VERDAD CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, INC.
the method, the researchers will be able to find the answers to question of the

study, including the relationship between Work Immersion Satisfaction and Self-

Efficacy.

The respondents are to answer survey-questionnaire from the researchers

that consists of two different sections: one is the Employee Satisfaction Survey

and two is the Self-Efficacy Survey. The researchers adopted the Occupational

Self-Efficacy Scale (OSSE) by Pethe et al. (1999). OSES is a 19-Item

Questionnaire with six dimensions. The six underlying dimensions of this scale are:

(i) confidence (dependence on one’s own abilities) (ii) command (sense of control

over the situation) (iii) adaptability (the ability to adjust) (iv )personal effectiveness

(inclination towards continuous development) (v) positive attitude (ability to

evaluate optimistically) and (vi) individuality (Independence in making decisions

and setting standards of performance). The other one is the Employee Satisfaction

Survey, where different categories of the survey are mixed in (QuestionPro, 2020).

The researchers only picked some of the questions and modified it, in order to

align the questions to the statement of the problem. The survey also included a

checkbox question regarding relevance of Work Immersion Program to the

pursued course of the Grade 12 students.

The conducted surveys will assists by the researchers to gather the

quantitative data or the necessary basis for the results of this research investigate

the relation of Work Immersion Satisfaction toward the Self-Efficacy of the

respondents.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

The researchers will first ask for an approval to the School Administration

to conduct a survey to Grade 12 Students. After the Survey Questionnaire to be

used is validated and the researchers were given the permission to conduct a

study, the researchers will conduct the survey to the Grade 12 students. The data

gathered will give the researchers an insight whether the relevance of their work

to the course they want to pursue in college could affect the satisfaction level to

their Work Immersion.

The survey will measure their Self-Efficacy toward work accomplishments

and Work Immersion Satisfaction. During the survey, they will not having any direct

interaction to the respondents. The collection of information will based on the

surveys that are distributed to the respondents. The questionnaire will be collected

by the researchers after conducting survey to participants that responded. They

will analyze the data gathered from the conducted survey to find the relationship

of Work Immersion Satisfaction to Self-Efficacy of the Grade 12 Students. To give

precision to the findings of the study, the data gathered will be supported from

research studies and other sources.

STATISTICAL TOOLS AND TREATMENT

To organize and arrange the data in order, the researchers used a visual

representation such as tables, graphs and charts to display the research results

acquired based on the researcher’s objectives. In line with this, the questions that

is being asked will be divided and thought to be answered and presented

systematically.

The data collected uses divisions based on the variables that may influence

the choice of strand of the student. The researchers used the following ratings to

help answer the questions given.
