In order to cover this study, we will need information on all the research
objectives as mentioned above. To obtain this information, we shall follow the
Exploratory Research Design. With the help of the exploratory research, problem can be
defined more precisely, hypothesis can be developed, key variables and the relationships
can be isolated. It will also give further insights and understanding of the problem
statement.

Exploratory research can be conducted using:

i. Survey of experts(faculty)

ii. Pilot Surveys

iii. Qualitative analysis of secondary data

A 6 is a form of qualitative research (pilot survey) in which a group of

people are asked about their perceptions, opinions, beliefs and attitudes towards the issue of
students talking in between class. ©

  , we will conduct two focus group
discussions, one group of faculty and other group of students to understand the mindset of
groups on the issue. Once the focus group sessions are completed, the objectives will be
redefined (if required).

In order to conduct this survey, the method of data collection that will be used is Personal
Interview in r 6 . We will also be conducting the survey through
6  with the help of

Sample size can be calculated the using the formula:

Sample Size n = ((Z^2)*pq)/(E^2)

Where Z = Confidence level

p = success rate

q = failure rate

E = the proportion of error we are prepared to accept

For the purpose of this survey, we shall consider a confidence level of 95% => Z=c.96

Since the respondents can either feel that students talk due to genuine reasons or in-
genuine reasons, probability will be .5. Hence p = q = .5

We will be ready to accept an error of % in this survey. Hence, E = .

Sample Size n = (c.96*c.96* .5* .5) / ( . * . ) = c5

Hence the sample size for this research study will be c .

In order to implement perform a research, it is very important to have an apt sampling
design. For this survey, µQuota Sampling¶ will be used as the sampling design.

In q , the population is first segmented into mutually exclusive sub-

groups, just as in stratified sampling. Then judgment is used to select the subjects or units
from each segment based on a specified proportion. For example, for this research we can
segment the target sample based on their gender, age group.
