Nadi Jyothisha - Jeeva and Sareera

Out of many important factors which have to be taken into consideration and special attention has to be
paid for assessing the results of a House or Bhava are Jeeva and Sareera. The soul is named as Jeeva
and the body goes by the appellation of Sareera. The Jeeva and the Sareera have to be worked out for
every Bhava or House for proper predictions as they are the main planets on whom the results depend
to some extent. It may be noted thet the jeeva and Sareera planets should be benefics to the particular
native and well posited in the chart apart from benefic aspects etc for good results to flow. One has to
consider whether the jeeva and Sareera planets are inimical to each other. Various authors and scholars
have divergent views about the Jeeva and the Sareera. They have their own methods to find them out.

According to some Nadi Granthas, the Lagna is the soul and the Chandra Lagna is the Sareera. From
these it follows or could be inferred that the Lord of Lagna is the Jeeva Planet and the Sareera Planet is
the one which owns the Chandra Rasi. Their Strengths or Weakness is reflected in the results. For
predictions Lagna along with Chandra lagna and placement of Planets with reference these Lagnas are
examined.

Another view is that the owner of the house where a particular Bhavathipathi is posited is the Jeeva of
that Bhava and the Lord of the House in which the Jeeva Planet is situated in the Sareera Planet. For
example in a Mesha Lagna Horoscope in which Guru is in Simha and Ravi is in Vrishchika as per the
chart 1 given below. The Jeeva planet of 9th house is Ravi and Kuja is the Sareera Planet of the 9th
House.

The Lord of the 9th House Guru is in Simha so the Lord of Simha is the Jeeva planet of 9th House.
Ravi, the Jeeva planet is in Vrishchika so the Lord of Vrishchika-Kuja is the Sareera planet.

Some scholars arrive at the Jeeva and Sareera Planets by taking into consideration the Karakathwas.
The Lord of the house in which the Karakathwa is situated become the jeeva. The relevant House Lord
counted from the placement of karakathwa planet become the Sareera Planet. The principle can be
elucidated from the following example.

In Chart 2 where the Lagna is Mesha, the Moon, Chandra is in Kanya. One of the Karakathwa of
Chandra is Mother. As Chandra is in kanya, its Lord budha becomes the jeeva planet for mother. 4th
house represents mother so 4 houses counted from the placement of chandra is Dhanus, the lord of
dhanus Guru becomes the Sareera planet for mother.

In the stellar system of astrology, the constellations and their lords are the basis to find out the jeeva
and sareera planets of the respective bhavas or houses in a chart. The jeeva planet is the lord of the
constellation in which the particular Bhava Lord is posited and the Sareera planet is the Lord of the star
in which the Jeeva planet is situated. For example in a Mesha lagna horoscope, when Chandra ( lord of
the 4th house ) is in the constellation Uthiradam ( Ravi’s star ) Ravi is termed as the Jeeva Planet for
the 4th house. Ravi ( The Jeeva Planet in this case ) is in the constellation Poorattadhi, so the lord of
Poorattadhi i.e., guru becomes the Sareera planet for the 4th House.

Ravi’s jeeva planet for 4th house in Guru is the sareera planet for the 4th house.
Ravi is in Poorattadhi and Chandra is in Uthiradham.

When the jeeva planet joins another strong or powerful planet, the powerful or stronger planet becomes
the jeeva planet. In other words the stronger or powerful planet snatches away the right of the other
planet. This may happen in the case of Sareera also. The following example will make it clear. See
chart 4 where Sukra is exalted in Meena.

Ravi is in Poorattadhi and Sukra in revathi. Chandra is in Uthiradham.

Sukra is the jeeva planet and Budha is the Sareera planet of the 4th house.

In the Chart no 4, Ravi and Sukra are in Meena, on account of the exaltation of Sukra, Ravi does not
become the Jeeva Planet though Chandra is in the constellation of Ravi.

In cases where the Bhava lord is in his own constellation, the Bhava Lord himself becomes the jeeva
Planet. The Lord of the house in which the Jeeva lord is tenanted is the Sareera planet. For clarity see
Chart 5 and explanation thereon.

Chandra in Rohini.

In the Chart 5 Chandra the lord of 4th house is in Rohini ( Chandra’s Constellation ) So Chandra
