“Campus Tour” launched in Compostela Valley Province

th

Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the Montevista National High School in Barangay

Poblacion, Montevista, Compostela Valley Province their “Campus Tour”. A total of
1,582 students benefitted from the activity that lasted for two days.

“Campus Tour” is a massive information drive program that the Fireball Battalion
will undertake to increase the students’ awareness on the insurgency problem that the
government has been confronting for more than 40 years now. “Insurgency is
everyone’s concern,” said 1st Lieutenant Rey Vergel Annogui, the Civil-Military
Operations Officer of the 25th Infantry Battalion. In addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Lt
Annogui added, “All of us, including teachers and students, have roles to perform in
solving this problem.”

Speakers in the “campus tour” discussed in details the insurgency problem as

threat to national security with its objective to overthrow the government, seize political
power and establish a communist system of government. Discussion also dealt on the
dual strategy that the insurgents are employing to advance the “struggle” of the
underground communist movement.

“The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), being a political organization,

wants absolute control over the political and economic affairs of the country,” a former
full-time communist party member said. Further, he explained, “The party (CPP)
introduced itself as the representative of the ‘proletarist’ or the ‘working class’ and offers
itself to govern the country.” But the speaker lamented that the objective of the party is
to put itself in power as a dictator which will deprive the people of their fundamental
rights, which they enjoy as citizens of the country under a democratic system. “The New
People Army is not a people’s army because it is subservient to the party (CPP),” he
concluded.

Another speaker discussed the “infiltration” that the communist party is

undertaking to form a solid base that will provide the party and the NPA resources in
terms of “warm bodies” and logistics to sustain the revolution. “As what Jose Maria
Sison, the founding chairman of CPP and current political consultant of the National
Democratic Front, there are legal democratic forces in the Philippines that operate to
complement the armed struggle carried out by the NPA,” he divulged. He added, “No
one is spared from this ‘infiltration’ and exploitation of the party through the different
legal fronts.” Jose Maria Sison, in a recorded speech in Brussels, Belgium in 1987,
specifically mentioned the “League of Filipino Students” as among those legal
democratic forces.

The school was very appreciative of the “Campus Tour” program of the military.
Mr. Francisco Pimentel, Principal I of Montevista National High School (Annex) and Ms
Lina G Sescon, Principal II of Montevista National High School (Main Campus) both
thanked the 25th Infantry Battalion for the activity because teachers and students
learned a lot from it.

The “campus tour” is being implemented as part of the peace and development
outreach program of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division with the objective of protecting the
students in the secondary and tertiary schools from the recruitment activities of the
CPP/NPA/NDF.
