SDO-ILOCOS SUR-PGIS BOXING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM CONTENT
INTRODUCTION
Quality physical activity is fundamental to child development - cognitive development, motor skills,
emotional and mental growth. We can’t just leave this to chance and expect our youth to obtain the
physical literacy they need for life. Being physically active is not just about burning calories or kids letting
off steam - it is fundamental to their development.
Outside of academic achievement, we also know that sports is essential for kids to grow, think, engage
and be part of their community and wider society. There is a broad and growing evidence base for this.
Importantly, when we don’t support youth to be involved in sport, then the next generation will not only
miss out on the physical, academic and social benefits, but they also pass their behavior and attitudes on
to their own children.
If youth starts receiving regular, quality physical literacy for professional sports i.e Boxing etc, then
program will become career oriented to change their mindset and reducing recidivism. Boxing
Development Program in our province of Ilocos Sur together with SDO will become a life changing
experience, and a great opportunity to develop self-discipline and provide the ground for youth to make
career in boxing sport, and earn for their living.
Tracing the previous track of SDO-ILOCOS SUR in sports particularly in boxing, we are one of
the big contenders in the RIAA Meet in the finals. Sad to say for the last years we were not able
to grab that gold medal to qualify our division to Palarong Pambansa. With this Boxing Program,
we will have a greater chance to put our province and division to the highest competition meets.
Since we hosted the 2018 Palarong Pambansa, the provincial government provide us world-class
boxing equipment particularly boxing ring. With these equipment, we can envision a competitive
boxers from our province. Another plus factor is the staff coming from Elorde Gym that will guide
us in this Boxing Program.
The Boxing Program is a step in this direction where we aspire to contribute to the development
of PGIS-SDO-ILOCOS SUR through boxing for youth in order to develop and become career
oriented to change their mindset. The program thereby is a comprehensive physical education
curriculum for youth to promote development, Health, Education and skill development through
the sport of boxing.
