z Answer all 15 problems. Each problem is worth 10 points
and the total is 150 points. For problems involving more
than one answer, full credit will be given only if ALL
answers are correct, no partial credit will be given. There

1. The age of Max now times the age of Mini a year from now is the square of an
integer. The age of Max a year from now times the age of Mini now is also the
square of an integer. If Mini is 8 years old now, and Max is now older than 1 but
younger than 100, how old is Max now?

8. M is the midpoint of the side CD of a square ABCD of side length 24 cm. P is a


point such that PA = PB = PM. What is the minimum length, in cm, of PM?

9. In a party, every two people shake hands except for Bob, who only shakes hands
with some of the people. No two people shake hands more than once. If the total
number of handshakes is 2014, with how many people does Bob shake hands?

10. The cost of a ticket for a concert is $26 for an adult, $18 for a youth and $10 for
a child. The total cost of a party of 131 people is $2014. How many more
children than adults are in the party?

11. Two overlapping squares with parallel sides are such that the part common to

both squares has an area of 4 cm2. This is the area of the larger square and

of the area of the smaller square. What is the minimum perimeter, in cm, of

the eight-sided figure formed by the overlapping squares?

12. The number of stars in the sky is 8 × 12 + 98 × 102 + 998 × 1002 + ··· + 99···98
× 100···02. In the last term, there are 2014 copies of the digit 9 in 99···98 and
2014 copies of the digit 0 in 100···02. What is the sum of the digits of the
number of stars?

13. In a triangle ABC, D is a point on BC and F is a point on AB. The point K of


reflection of B across DF is on the opposite side of AC to B. AC intersects FK at
P and DK at Q. The total area of triangles AFP, PKQ and QDC is 10 cm2. If we

add to this the area of the quadrilateral DFPQ, we obtain of the area of ABC.

14. After Nadia goes up a hill, she finds a level path on top of length 2.5 km. At the
end of it, she goes down the hill to a pond. Later, she goes back along the same
route. Her walking speed is 5 kph, but it decreases to 4 kph going up the hill,
and increases to 6 kph going down the hill. Her outward journey takes 1 hour 36
minutes but her return journey takes 1 hour 39 minutes. She does not stop
anywhere at any time. What is the length, in km, from start point to the pond?

15. Five colours are available for the painting of the six faces of a cube. One colour
is used to paint two of the faces, while each of the other four colours is used to
paint one face. How many differently painted cubes can there be? Two cubes
painting the same colours on corresponding faces after rotation or flip are not
considered to be different.

1. Find the smallest four-digit number which has the same number of positive
divisors as 2015.

2. Each students is asked to remove three of the first twenty-one positive integers
(1, 2, 3, …, 21) and calculate the sum of the remaining eighteen numbers. The
three numbers removed by each student contain two consecutive numbers, and
no two students remove the same three numbers. At most how many students
can correctly get 212 as the answer?

3. ABCD is a rectangular house. A fence extends AB to E with BE = 80 m. A fence


extends BC to F with CF = 70 m. A fence extends CD to G with DG = 50 m. A
fence extends DA to H with AH = 90 m. Fences through E and G parallel to AD
and fences through F and H parallel to AB are built, enclosing a rectangular plot
with four rectangular gardens around the house. The sum of the perimeters of
the four gardens is 2016 m. What is the perimeter, in m, of the house?

4. A certain community is divided into organizations, each organization is divided


into associations, each association is divided into societies and each society is
divided into clubs. The number of clubs in each society, the number of societies
in each association and the number of associations in each organization are the
same integer which is greater than 1. The community has a president, as does
each organization, association, society and club. If there are 161 presidential
positions altogether, how many organizations are there in this community?

5. Each of the machines A and B can produce one bottle per minute. Machine A has
to rest for one minute after producing 3 bottles and Machine B has to rest 1.5
minutes after producing 5 bottles. What is the minimum number of minutes for
these two machines to produce 2015 bottles together?

6. The six digits 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are used to construct a one-digit number, a


two-digit number and a three-digit number. Each must be used only once and all
six digits must be used. The sum of the one-digit number and the two-digit
number is 47 and the sum of the two-digit number and the three-digit number is
358. Find the sum of all the three numbers.

7. E is a point on the side BC of a square ABCD such that BE = 20 cm and
CE = 28 cm. P is a point of the diagonal BD. What is the smallest possible value,
in cm, of PE + PC ?

8. In a group of distinct positive integers, the largest one is less than 36, and is
equal to three times the smallest one. The smallest number is equal to two-thirds
of the group average. At most how many numbers are there in this group?

9. The diagram below shows the top view of a structure built with nine stacks of
unit cubes. The number of cubes in each stack is indicated. Each stack rises from
the bottom without gaps. The outside surface, including the nine 1 by 1 squares
on the bottom, are painted. What is the total number of 1 by 1 faces that are
painted?

10. The sum of the digits of each of four different three-digit numbers is the same,
and the sum of these four numbers is 2015. Find the sum of all possible values
of the common digit sum of the four numbers.

11. There are three positive integers. The first is a two-digit number which consists
of two identical digits. The second one is a two-digit number which consists of
two different digits, and its units digit is the same as that of the first number. The
third one is a one-digit number which consists of only one digit, which is the
same as the tens digit of the second number. Exactly two of these three numbers
are prime numbers. In how many different ways can the three positive integers
be chosen?

12. A positive integer is divided by 5. The quotient and the remainder are recorded.
The same number is divided by 3. Again the quotient and the remainder are
recorded. If the same two numbers in different order are recorded, find the
product of all possible values of the original number.

13. E is a point of the side AB of a rectangle ABCD such that AE = 2 EB , and Z is the
midpoint of the side BC. M and N are the midpoints of DE and DZ respectively.
If the area of the triangle EMN is 5 cm2, calculate the area, in cm2, of the

14. In how many ways can we divide the numbers 1, 2, 3, … , 12 into four groups,
each containing three numbers whose sum is divisible by 3?

15. A number from 1, 2, 3, …, 19 is said to be a follower of a second number from 1,


2, 3, …, 19 if either the second number is 10 to 18 more than the first, or the
first number is 1 to 9 more than the second. Thus 6 is a follower of 16, 17, 18,
19, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. In how many ways can we choose three numbers from 1, 2,
3, …, 19 such that the first is a follower of the second, the second is a follower
of the third, and the first is also a follower of the third?

1. ABCDE is a regular pentagon of side length 1 m. There are 5, 15, 14, 9 and 17
students at the vertices A, B, C, D and E respectively. The teacher wants the
same number of students at each vertex, so some of the students have to walk to
other vertices. They may only walk along the sides. What is the minimum total
length, in m, the students have to walk?

2. A, B and C run a 200-m race in constant speeds. When A finishes the race, B is
40 m behind A and C is 10 m behind B. When B finishes, C still has to run
another 2 seconds. How many seconds does B still have to run when A finishes?

3. With each vertex of a 1 cm by 1 cm square as centre, circles of radius 1 cm are


drawn, as shown in the diagram below. How much larger, in cm2, is the area of
the shaded region than the area of a circle of radius 1 cm? (Take π = 3.14 )

4. How many multiples of 18 are there between 8142016 and 8202016?

5. In a basketball game, a foul shot is worth 1 point, a field shot is worth 2 points
and a long-range shot is worth 3 points. Stephen makes 8 foul shots and 14 others.
If he had made twice as many field shots and half as many long-range shots, he
would have scored 7 extra points. How many points has Stephen actually scored?

6. John’s running speed is twice his walking speed. Both are constant. On his way
to school one day, John walks for twice as long as he runs, and the trip takes 30
minutes. The next day, he runs for twice as long as he walks. How many
minutes does the same trip take on the second day?

7. Jimmy has some peanuts. On the first day, he eats 13 peanuts in the morning and
one tenth of the rest in the afternoon. On the second day, he eats 16 peanuts in
the morning and one tenth of the rest in the afternoon. If he has eaten the same
number of peanuts on both days, how many peanuts will he have left?

8. The sum of 49 different positive integers is 2016. What is the minimum number
of these integers which are odd?

9. The sum of 25 positive integers is 2016. Find the maximum possible value of
their greatest common divisor.

10. ABCD is the rectangle where AB = 12 cm and BC = 5 cm. E is a point on the


opposite side of AB to C, as shown in the diagram below. If AE = BE and the
area of triangle AEB is 36 cm2, find the area, in cm2, of triangle AEC.

11. Anna starts writing down all the prime numbers in order, 235711…. She stops
after she has written down ten prime numbers. She now removes 7 of the digits,
and treats what is left as a 9-digit number. What is the maximum value of this
number?

12. Three two-digit numbers are such that the sum of any two is formed of the same
digits as the third number but in reverse order. Find the sum of all three
numbers.

13. The sum of two four-digit numbers is a five-digit number. If each of these three
numbers reads the same in both directions, how many different four-digit
numbers can appear in such an addition?

14. When 2016 is divided by 3, 5 and 11, the respective remainders are 0, 1 and 3.
Find the smallest number with the same properties that can be made from the
digits 2, 0, 1 and 6, using each at most once.

15. Each student writes down six positive integers, not necessarily distinct, such that
their product is less than or equal to their sum, and their sum is less than or equal
to 12. If no two students write down the same six numbers, at most how many
students are there?
