HIMIG HANDOG: Choral Competition 2020

OFFICIAL GUIDELINES OF THE COMPETITION

A. DATE, TIME & VENUE:


1. Date - March 13, 2020
2. Time - 9:00am (Children); 1:00pm (Youth); 4:00pm (Adult)
3. Venue - TBA
B. CATEGORY:
1. Children (6 to 12 years old) –SSA
2. Youth (13 to 18 years old) –SATB
3. College/Adult (19 years old and above) –SATB
C. REQUIREMENTS:
Each member must submit:
1. Photocopy of Birth Certificate
2. Photocopy of Valid ID’s
D. PARICIPATION:
1. The competition is open to all school and community based choral groups in the
country.
2. Conductors are allowed to lead a maximum of two (2) groups in different
categories, otherwise the conductor will be denied participation in the
competition.
3. Accompanists are allowed to assist a maximum of three (3) groups in the entire
competition regardless of categories.
E. NUMBER OF ALLOWED PERFOMERS PER GROUP:
1. Maximum of twenty five (25) singers, minimum of twelve (12) singers.
2. One (1) Conductor
3. One (1) Accompanist
F. CRITERIA FOR JUDGING:
Musicality (40%) –fidelity to style, phrasing, and over-all musical impression
Technique (40%) –intonation, dynamics, balance, harmony, blending, and tone quality
Programming (20%) –choice of piece/s and proper rendition
Allocation of Points
Contest Piece 50%
Extra Piece 50%
Total 100%
G. REPERTOIRE: Each group shall render two (2) Choral pieces: One (1) Contest Piece and One
(1) Extra Piece
1. Contest Piece
a. Takatak by: Arwin Q. Tan – Children’s Category
b. Anak by: Ralph Hoffmann – Youth Category
c. Veni Creator Spiritus ded by: Ralph Hoffmann – Open Category
2. One (1) Extra Piece of any genre: A cappella or with accompaniment regardless of vocal
combination. Choirs are free to use indigenous instruments so long as these are expressly
included in the written score.
3. The contest piece should not be transposed or altered in any other versions.
H. PERFORMANCE DURATION: Each group will be given a maximum of Twelve (12) minutes
which covers performance, entrance and exit.
I. PENALTIES:
1. A zero point one (0.1) for every three (3) seconds in excess of the regulation time of
twelve (12) minutes will be deducted from the final tabulated score.
2. One (1) point will be deducted the final score in excess of the required number of
performers.
3. A ONE TEAM policy will be strictly implemented on singers, violation of which will be a
ground for DISQUALIFICATION for all the groups where the performer was identified.
J. RESTRICTIONS:
1. A conductor can only lead a maximum of two (2) groups which must compete in different
categories.
2. An accompanist can only assist a maximum of three (3) groups for the entire competition.

Hall of fame award shall be awarded to choir that has received the same award for three
consecutive years
L. ADJUDICATION PANEL:
The Executive Committee will assign a set of judges. These Official Judges are well known
for their achievement and stature in the field of music and performing arts preferably
coming from the National Level. Their decision shall be based on the result of the
competition and shall be final and irrevocable.
M. DEADLINE OF SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES: February 7, 2020.
