CHAPTER IV

 SHORT INTRODUCTION (1 Paragraph)

EX: Table 3 represents the perception of the selected RAA students about
the influence of social media as self-centeredness. The researchers found out that
social media use has affected the self-centredness of an individual.Social Media
is one of the major aspects why the emotional growth, confidence, and the trust of
certain individual differ and vary.

 WEIGHTED MEAN (1 Paragraph)

The researchers looked for the mean of each item together with the weighted
mean and it resulted to 2.666. It can be determined that One factor that greatly affects
the self centeredness of the individuals is the using of social media platforms. Social
media affects how they view themselves as better than others. Tartaglia (2016) states
that the reason why passed researches have opposite findings about the relation of
social mediums to individual’s self-esteem was its inconsistency. Most of these literature
have considered a media platform, such as Facebook as a whole, without enumerating
different modalities of use or motivations of an individual in utilizing the social network.
In analyzing social media usage, there are three modalities to be considered:
social interaction, simulation and search for relations. Tartaglia (2016) deemed that the
use of Facebook as a medium of meeting people was not related to self-esteem but
mainly a search for a romantic partner.
In terms of academic performance a study of Abu-Shanab (2015) pointed the
importance of attention span devoted to multiple sources of attractions. Such result
indicates the importance of using of social media platforms wisely and towards a
productive time in class rooms and back home. Using mobile phones for texting and
social network access also was explored to see if it is related to the engagement level in
classrooms, where research indicated that engagement is closely related to teacher’s
style and control. Also, the use of social networks and mobile texting was not related to
lower performance results (Paul & Gelish, 2011). Such issue emphasizes the
distraction that social media cause, but not to the extent of risking academic
performance. Social media affects people in many ways. The existence of social media
anf real life at the same time is not bad, but when social media begins to dominate the
majority of your own self, time, and how you socialize in the real world it becomes
unhealthy. It is not important the number of friends or people who followed you neither
hone or build to becoming who you are. A good balance between social media and real
life is no harm, but when social media begins to take over who you are and how much
you interact with real life, it starts becoming toxic. The amount of friends or followers you
have does not matter, and it does not in any shape or form define who you are
Stobodzianss(2018).

 HIGHEST MEAN, IMPORTANT MEAN, LOWEST MEAN (2-3 paragraphs)

By getting the mean of each item, it can be summarized that the item no. 4(I am
afraid to receive criticism.) had the highest mean of 4.18 and it merely indicates that
since the result is strongly disagree, it shows that social media does not really affects how
an individual see itself. No matter what other people say what really matters in the end,
is how you see yourself as who you are and not what others perceived upon you. Since
that you are aware that all of them will see your post on social media and will have the
capacity to take advantage and makes different perceptions about you it does not affects
anymore. To support this the study of Thomas (2015) emphasizes that criticism never
constructs anything. It always tears apart. It always erodes an idea, a feeling, a behavior,
an opinion, or a person. Even when human mentally criticize themselves, it tears at the
target of its critical self-talk. Furthermore the study of Hughes D.et. Al(,2012) Shows that
personality was affiliated to online socializing and information seeking/exchange.
Facebook or twitter was company with contradt in personality. Results showed the
differential status between personality and Facebook and Twitter consumption. ( Hughes
D.et. al ,2012). Social Media manifest the best parts of those individuals whom they are
idolizing. It can end up to comparison, and thinking that the other person is way better
than the other, and this situation is may be one of the effects that can cause to have a
low self-esteem.
Item no. 7 (I am conscious about my physical features) had the lowest
mean of 1.68 which indicates that social media has greatly affects how an individual feel
concious about its physical appearance on social media. The study of Fardouly, J. et.al
(2015) states that people who participated in this study shows that respondents who uses
Facebook more tends to be in a negative mood. On the other hand, those who controls
their time in using social media is opposed to the first statement. In addition to this, women
are more conscious of their facial hairs, body hairs, etc. Also, it says that women are more
into having concerns when it comes to posting body images on social media, they are the
ones who always wants to make sure they will look good on the images that they will post.
Furthermore, Jan et al. (2017) states that increase in social media usage, specifically
Facebook, ironically decreases individual’s self-esteem and self-growth. Social
networking sites lead people to social comparisons that results to psychological distress.
Furthermore, the study shows that individuals with low self-esteem find media platforms
such as Facebook more beneficial than individuals with high self-esteem.

According to study of Marano (2016), compliments uplifts the positive thinking,

within the span of the social life of an individual, receiving compliments can be considered
as one of the greatest occurrences. This connects to the receiving end of the compliment
having the motivation he/she needs to accomplish tasks. Moreover, Marano states that
the advantages in compliments are not just accounted in receiving them but also in giving
them. This results to determination and hardwork being further developed, founded by
the individuals' promising commitment, of both the the giving and the receiving side.

As to the important mean, Item no.10(At times, I think I am not good at all.) had
the second highest mean of 2.84 and interpreted as neutral. Respondents took side on
the neutral part which may indicate that neither they think they’re not good at all nor
they’re good. Based on the study of Manning (2019), she attests a greater positive impact
to one's well-being in accordance to the ingenuity and trueness of the praise.
Furthermore, giving compliments to others can achieve a domino effect in a way that if it
is done by an individual and has been witnessed by another individual, the deed can
easily be seen as necessary and can immediately be prevalent. This implies the skills of
leadership and influence to others as they will have the veracity to follow an individual's
positive action in complimenting others. Praising someone and making them feel that they
are good, it will have a great effect on how they will treat everyone with great respect. If
you praised them by how they act the other way around may have a great impact in
promoting a good relationship between you and other individual and can create a gret
positive outlook in the environment. According to the study of Miller (2016) emphasizes
the direct relationship of compliments and happiness, stating (the more praise you give,
the happier you feel). The connection between these two variables --compliments and
happiness-- applies greatly in positive interferences within activities, providing the person
complimented a sense of assurance and the person complimenting a sense of
appreciation.
