COMPANY PROFILE

The Kannapuram Weavers Industrial Co-operative Society Ltd. [No. H.L.Indian (c) 15] is situated in
Kannur district, Kerala, India is an important handloom weavers society mainly providing top class
handloomexporters. The society was registered and established in year 1972. In and around there are
lots of weavers belonging to all communities fully depending on handloom industry for heir lively hood.

Until 1972, most of the weavers of this area were workinh under the control of Master

Weavers to private handloom establishment and earn low wages. In these circumstances, weavers
industrial (workshop) co-operative society limited was registered in 1972 to organize maximum weavers
under co-operative sector for their better living.

LOCATION

The Kannapuram Weavers Co-operative Society is situated in Kannapuram on the side of national
highway 17, about 8 Ion away from Kannur town in the Kerala State. Kannur is themain district for the
production of quality handloom textile for export. This prestigious traditional handloom industry
provides employment for the livelihood of over 20000 families at Kannur district , more than 70% at the
total handloom production of Kannur. The city of loom is being regularly exports to various countries all
over the world.

OBJECTIVES

 To improve the handloom industry and promote economic condition of the members of the
societies and to provide employment to them.

 To purchase own buildings looms and other accessories required for running the society and for
the useof the society.

 To raise fund required for the society from members and other including the government. Funds
are raised by issue of shares, by borrowing, by the way of deposits or other ways.

 To purchase such rawmaterials as may be required forthe industry and consent them into
finished goods in the society for which wages shall be paid to the members.

 To arrange the marketing of the finished goods to the best advantage of the society.
  To act as the agent for the joint purchase of the domestic and other requirement of its
members.

 To do such acts which are to be conducted for the attainment of general objects of the society.

ADMINISTRATION

At present the Kannapuram Weavers Industrial Co-operative Society has total 372 (including govt.
share) members (137 male members and 235 female members). The shares are distributed among
weavers of 18 years of age and above. The members elect the board of directors consist of members
elected for a period of 5 years and these seven members elect the presiden t. At present
Mr.P.Lakshmanan is the president and Mr.N.Sujith is the secretary of the society. The retirement age of
weavers is 58 years, same is the retirement age for the office staff also. The society provides upto 30 %
as bonus to the workers and staff. The society also provides production incentives, provident fund, ESI,
gratuity etc... to all weavers and staff. They are also eligible for other welfare measures.

Subject to such resolution as the general body may pass from time to time, the
executivemanagement of the affaires of society will rest ib the Board of Directors. The Board of
Directors will consist of not more than 7 members of whom 3will be from Weaving section, one from
the dyeing section, one from supervising and one from clerical staff.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The weavers owns 174 looms in different caegories like frame looms and Jacquard looms with awidth
up to 120. The Society manufactures 100 % pur cotton fabrics textiles, which are very famouse through
out the world. The have fully fledge dye house and use only superior quality colour and chemicals ,
which do not contain any harmful elements and the whole process and carried on an eco-friendly
ambience.

The society has an efficient team of well-experienced weavers, weaving masters and experts to check te
quality at each stage of production, no child labour is used anywhere in the production. The society has
a production capacity of over 20000 meters in a month. They develop modern samples within 15-20
days as per the requirement. The office of the society is computerised and the society uses most
modern tele-communication equipments with internet to deal with online queries and orders. There is
an exclusive product showroom in the society compound of which serves as a retail out let for the
variouse handloom products manufactured by the society

PRODUCT
 The Kannapuram weavers co-operative society manufactures 100 % pure cotton fabrics and textile of
various kinds and design whish is very famouse through out the world. The society has been supplying
the finished goods to the local export business, through the Society has not yet engaged in direct
exporting, but about 95% of total production is supplied to leading exporters for their export.

Due to the increasing demand for the quality products of the society from all over the world, the society
is all set to direct export from next year onwards.
