‘Fili’ redux
Dulaang UP is bringing back
the original Filipino musical
Isang Panaginip na Fili. This
production, Dulaang UP’s pre-
lude to the 150th birth anniver-
sary of Dr. Jose Rizal, was writ-
ten by Floy Quintos, with origi-
nal music by Ceejay Manuel
Javier.
It is a radical reworking of
Rizal’s El Filibusterismo. For
one, Jose Rizal himself is a cen-
tral character in the musical.
Reprising his role as Pepe
Rizal is Franco Laurel, who
won for this an Aliw Award in
2009 for Best Actor in a Musi-
cal. Alternating is Red Concep-
cion.
It runs Dec. 8-12 at the Wil-
