@Lincoln University College
Manual For Collaboration Forum

Preface
"Most great learning happens in groups. Collaboration is the stuff of growth"

- Sir Ken Robinson (Professor Emeritus, U.K)

The collaborative academic programs develop the curriculum and overall program quality with the
maximization of limited resources and removal of unnecessary duplication, increased accessibility and
flexibility of academic offerings to students. Collaborative academic programs shared decision-making,
broader communication and development of trust among inter-university faculty members; increased
opportunities for faculty professional development; and a shared vision and unified voice for
participating universities.
On the other hand collaboration may lead to differences in institutional values and culture,
competition among participating institutions, fear of losing institutional identity and autonomy. It is only
about maintaining program quality, sudden complexity of communication and underestimation of the
time essential for course development. Strategies to increase the chances of success when establishing
collaborative academic programs have been identified. Perhaps most important is taking the time to
create a culture of collaboration by building consensus about roles and responsibilities, negotiating
differences and remaining flexible. Other important activities include meeting the needs of educators
across universities, addressing the academic and administrative requirements of all participating
universities and establishing and maintaining programs of high academic excellence.
Collaborative academic programs can expand access to education and training for both general
people and businesses with its flexible scheduling structure. It has the potential for increased access to
more experts in the field and to other students from different geographical, social, cultural, economic, and
experiential backgrounds. As the population at large becomes more involved in lifelong learning beyond
the normal schooling age, institutions can benefit financially, and adult learning business courses may be
particularly worthwhile. Collaborative academic programs can act as a catalyst for institutional
innovation and are at least as effective as face-to-face learning programs.
Collaborative academic programs can also offer a broader method of communication within the
area of education. With the technological advancements communication appears to increase amongst
students and their professors, as well as students and their classmates and it helps to the improvement in
education. Collaborative academic programs may enable students who are unable to attend a traditional
school setting, due to disability or illness to get a good education. It helps to provide equal access
regardless of socioeconomic status or income, area of residence, gender, race, age, or cost per student.
Applying strategies to collaborative academic programs as they are being developed can increase the
accessibility of such courses to students with a range of abilities, disabilities, learning styles and native
languages.
Thank you for showing your interest in the collaboration forum with Lincoln University College.
Collaboration is basically a unique initiative of Lincoln University College towards the fulfillment of
learning. Lincoln University College offers a unique opportunity for the students enrolling in these
collaborative academic programs by giving them a chance to study in Malaysia for a year depending on
their desire (under some terms and condition).
Let's Begin
“Collaboration is important not just because it's a better way to learn. The spirit of collaboration is
penetrating every institution and all of our lives. So learning to collaborate is part of equipping
yourself for effectiveness, problem solving, innovation and life-long learning in an ever-changing
networked economy”

- Don Tapscott (CEO of The Tapscott Group, a member of World Economic Forum, Chancellor of Trent
University, Adjunct Professor of Management for the Rotman School of Management at the University of
Toronto and Martin Prosperity Institute Fellow)

This is a primitive topic oriented guide book for people who will be using the collaboration portal.
All of our work regarding collaborative programme will be performed as per the online System. The base
website is
http://www.collaborative.lincoln.edu.my/
The association model broadens the scope of educational benefits for students. Given that many
courses developed by the collaborative academic programs are available by which geographic separation
of universities is not a barrier. The use of modern technologies adds flexibility; for example, students can
access Web-based course material at their convenience. Students are also exposed to technologies that are
rapidly becoming common communication and education tools. Students have access to faculty from all
the participating universities who teach their courses and participate in educational offerings. This
approach gives students access to a much broader range of disciplines and experts than traditional
programs based within a single university. Students from the participating universities have
opportunities to learn from one another by taking courses together and by participating in such activities.
Present-day, Collaborative academic programs allow students to associate with standard programs
throughout the world that are out of reach for in-person learning. This is helpful because students have the
opportunity to combine new opinions with their own and develop a solid base for learning. Students can
review their lessons many times according to their need with their online learning. Then students can use
the coursework to fit their learning by focusing more on their weaker topics while breezing through
concepts that they already have or can easily grasp.
The collaborative academic programs have its traditional focus on content delivery or
correspondence and stress on independent learning. It has its roots on computer conferencing and
collaborative constructivist learning approach and it encourages collaboration in an interactive learning
environment.
The education landscape is changing and there are more types of learner than ever before. People
want and need to learn in different ways which support their preferred styles so it's important that we
'meet demand' and give learners what they want, when they want it. We have adopted and implemented
materials to support students through their training and training providers in their delivery.
From a global point of view, collaborative academic programs open doors. Distance is no longer a
barrier and learners are able to access and share information from virtually anywhere in the world. Most
now have their own digital device and this has changed the way they work and interact in a classroom and
study environment. Evaluating current Learning activities, outcomes and strategies allows for a more
objective measure of real effectiveness and potential for further development. The areas reviewed could
include strategy, organization, architecture or services or any other relevant parts of the process. The
future is bright in the collaborative academic programs world but we need to be bold and allow new
methods of learning to flourish.

Epilogue

“Collaboration is about “team work.” It's not a cliché, it's a practical reality.”
-JA Perez (Cuban humanitarian, author and evangelist)

Collaborative academic program is the fastest-growing mode of formal and informal teaching, training
and learning. It brings about flexibility of time, place and pace of study and it affords opportunities to design
learning environments. As result it is authentic, placed in the learning context and also problem-based in order
to provide students with “learning by doing” experiences. That is why; it is growing in popularity in all areas
and levels of education and training.

Perhaps the most important lesson learned by the training centre is the amount of time required to set up
and maintain a collaborative program across universities. Other universities planning similar initiatives
should allow liberal time to create a culture of collaboration, plan the curriculum and secure academic
approval at various levels within each participating university and from regional or provincial approval
bodies. Substantial time is also needed for regular meetings of the management team and principal faculty,
including face-to-face meetings, with their associated travel time.

Finally, reciprocal and flexible relationships are essential elements of university collaboration. Each
participating university must be willing to assume its share of responsibility for curriculum delivery and
program management. The success of a group academic program depends on the sustained commitment of all
the participating universities to the delivery of a vibrant, high-quality educational experience. The
collaboration will work in the long term only if all participating universities are willing to be reciprocal and
flexible as needed. At the same time, while working towards a common goal, each university must respect the
autonomy, context and constraints of the others.
