SUBJECT: ISSUES IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

ASSIGNMENT # 1
1. Why leadership in education important?

Leadership in education is important because, first, it creates a vision of

academic success for all students. This is important because there has always been a
historical gap between students on different socio-economical levels and high and
low achieving students. Second, leadership in education strives to maintain a safe
and receptive learning environment. Where, a healthy school environment is a key to
providing comfortable, orderly and structured classrooms. Third, it delegates
responsibility to others. This means that teachers, parents and even students are
empowered to take responsibility and accept accountability. Fourth, leadership in
education is important to improve the quality of education and the education system
itself. It is to ensure academic success through process, material and training
improvements. Fifth, leadership in education is the sciences of helping students
achieve academic success through managing and improving educational programs.
Educational leaders work with students of all ages and strive to help them reach their
academic goals. Lastly, schools today operate in complex environments, that’s why
leadership in education is important for teachers and school administrators to
effectively complete their mission of educating students and able to lead more than
just a classroom lesson.
2. Why is change in education important?
Change in education is important because we are now on the 21 st century where
the children of today are digital native. One big change that we see in the classrooms
today is how students and even teachers obtain information. Before the internet rise,
students found their information through textbooks, encyclopedias, newspapers,
magazines, and other print materials. Now we see students going for the “just in
time learning” of search engines, various websites, social media and anything else
technology. That’s why change in education is very much important to go with the
shifting in education. The cause of technology in the schools are causing a great rift
between the digital natives and the digital immigrants who struggle to keep their
heads above water as they see the 21 st century learners or digital natives run freely
with the changes in technology and to adapt to it. Education systems are challenged
in having to prepare students for today’s fast-changing world. Change in education
will result in grappling with how to engage students in their learning and develop the
knowledge and skills for today and tomorrow’s workplace, further education, or
training.
3. What are the 7 goals of education? Why an education leader needs to focus on these
goals in achieving quality education?
To enable students to
a. Become an informed and responsible citizen with a sense of national and global
identity, appreciation of positive values and attitudes as well as culture, and
respect for pluralism in society.
b. Acquire and construct a broad and solid knowledge base, and to understand
contemporary issues that may impact on students’ daily lives at personal,
community, national and global levels.
c. Become proficient in bilingual and trilingual communication for better study and
life.
d. Develop and apply generic skills in an integrative manner, and to become an
independent and self-directed learner for future study and work.
e. Use information and information technology ethically, flexibly and effectively.
f. Understand one’s own interests, aptitudes and abilities, and to develop and reflect
upon personal goals with aspirations for further studies and future career.
g. Lead a healthy lifestyle with active participation in physical and aesthetic
activities, and to appreciate sports and the arts.

An education leader needs to focus on these goals in achieving quality

education because the purpose of education is to help each person reach their
human potential. Education is much more than educating children to be future
workers.
4. What are the 4 purposes of education? Is your context of real purpose of education
is in the 4 purposes mentioned?
4 Purposes of Education:
a. Intellectual Purposes
b. Political and Civic Purposes
c. Economic Purposes
d. Social Purposes

Yes, because my context in education is to help students gain the knowledge and
skills so that they will be able to function in society. Students need to be provided
with the necessary skills so that they can learn to become productive citizens.
