Malvolio provides opposition to Cesario throughout the show.

Malvolio is a stupid hopeful character. He falls for the tricks that are played on him
which has comical value.

These characters are the principal roles because the meat of the story is concerned
with their narrative.

To tell the story of Cesario/Viola.

These are mostly Foil characters, to each other and the secondary characters.

Valentine, Maria, Toby, Andrew, Fabian.

They don’t add to the main plot line. They have their own plot.

They mostly provide comedic relief to the moments that may get too serious.

Fools, Comedic characters.

The Sailors are a part of the shipwreck scene. The Soldiers come to take Antonio
away.

Viola and Cesario are the same person. Viola has feelings for Orsino, who she is
working for. Orsino has feelings for Olivia, who has feelings for Cesario. Sebastian is
Viola’s brother. Sebastian and Antonio are gay, prove me wrong. Toby is Olivia’s
Uncle. Maria is Olivia’s handmaiden. Andrew is Olivia’s gentleman caller.

Cesario is a Eunich. Feste is a Fool. Olivia is a prick. Orsino is a dick. And everyone
else is there to make us sick.

The main plot characters all fall for the wrong person. The secondary characters
dislike each other at different points through the play.

That doesn’t really matter for anyone but Malvolio and Viola. Malvolio thinks he is
the Bee’s Knees. Viola knows that she won’t make a life for herself as a woman, so
she poses as a man.

The have a formal Monarchy. Orsino is a Duke.

they live?
As this is a comedy, governmental affairs have little to nothing to do with the plot.
Some characters are looking for money or class, but very little governmental
dealings. Mostly comedy.

Though she is a woman, Olivia basically runs the family. The whole play is ruled by
her.
