2. The National Flag of India was adopted by the constituent assembly on the
July 22, 1947. The ratio of the width of the flag to its length is two to three.
3. The charka has 24 spokes.
4. Flag code 2002: The Union Cabinet decide that all citizens of India could
host the tri colour throughout the year. Previously they could do so only on
special days such as Republic Day and Independence Day.
5. Supreme Court in a major ruling declared that hoisting of the National Flag by
the citizens is a Fundamental Right under Article 19(1) (a) of the
Constitution.
6. National Emblem – Saranath Lion Capital of Ashoka.
7. The original lioned capital of the pillar was designed by Emperor Ashoka.
This was adopted as the National Emblem on the January 26, 1950 by the
Government of India.
8. The words “SATYAMEVA JAYETE” are inscribed on the Emblem in
Devanagari Script.
9. The words “SATYAMEVA JAYETE” are taken from mundaka Upanishad.
(Truth alone triumphs).
10. National Anthem composed by Rabindranath Tagore. Originally it was
composed in Bengal. It was first sung on December 27, 1911 at the Calcutta
session of Indian National Congress.
11. National Anthem was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on January 24,
1950.
12. The song translated into English by Tagore in 1919 under the title “Morning
song of India”.
13. National Song “Vande mataram” composed by Bankim Chandra chatterji.

R&D
1. Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) was set up in
1958. The Defence Research and Development Laboratory launched
Integrated Missile development Programme. Under this five missiles were
successfully test fired.
A. PRITHVI: India’s first indigenously built Surface to Surface missile. In
1998, first test fired from Sriharikota. 250 KM. Inducted in 1993.
B. TRISHUL: Short range surface to Air missile. 5-9 KM. 1988.
C. Akash: Surface to Air missile. 25 KM. 1990.
D. NAG: Third generation anti-tank guided missile. 4 KM. 1988.
E. AGNI: Intermediate ballistic surface to surface missile. 2500 KM. 1989.
