IMPORTANCE OF SECOND LANGUAGE

INTRODUCTION
Language plays an important role in our everyday life interactions. It is used by human to do
communication with other people in conveying and sharing idea, feeling, emotion, and information both
in spoken and written forms. It also serves the human needs in their everyday communication in any
situation.

Second language is a language that is not the mother tongue, but that is used for public
communication. In other words second language is a non-native language officially recognized and
adopted in a multilingual country as a means of public communication. Foreign language is a language
indigenous to another country. It is also a language not spoken in the native country of the person
referred to.

Strengths and weaknesses of English language teaching

1. P1 Students started learning English at a very young age and they should be good at it. However,
this could also be a disadvantage as students were too young to learn English and to
understand what they were taught
2-6: P6 These respondents all commented that individual schools had great autonomy over syllabus
design. Consequently, some syllabus contents were too rich to be covered within the limited
time span. Therefore, it was hard to make adjustments, though students could not cope with the
learning requirements. This put pressure on both teachers and students. Worse still, some
schools made students learn other foreign languages apart from English, and that made the
learning of English more difficult.

THE STRENGTHS,WEAKNESSES,OPPORTUNITIES AND

THREATS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE
English language is one of the most used languages all over the globe. An analysis of the language
however reveals some strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

English language may be considered as having many strengths as compared to its weaknesses and
threats.

Some of the strengths of the language lie in its universal nature. It is a language spoken all over the
world and is second only to Mandarin. Even in francophone countries, English language is still
spoken and sometimes written as an acceptable medium of communication.

Another strength of the English language is the fact that it is the primary language of business
throughout the world. Contracts, agreements, e- mails, reports, memos and other business related
documents are mostly written in English language.
In the global entertainment industry it is unarguable that most of the songs and Hollywood movies
are in English and hence anyone with an acceptable level of proficiency in the English language is at
an advantage.

The ability to speak English language in addition to your mother tongue gives one an added
advantage in a job search.

Many of the computer software available to players in the computer industry are written in the
English language and though some are also compiled in different internationally recognized
languages, an understanding of the English language will be of essence in modern science and
technology.

English is a flexible language which adopts words from different origins hence it is much easier for
people of other language backgrounds including French, German, Latin and Greek to relate to the
language.

In the face of these strengths or advantages ascribed to the English language, there are a few
weaknesses as well.

The English language may be difficult to learn especially to people for whom it is being thought as a
second language. This is due to the fact that English has a rigid structure and may have different
meanings for the same word. For example “sky” and “heaven” may cause one to look upward and
though justifiable so, may mean other things which may be confusing to the learner of the English
language.

Also the fact that there is a difference between English language as spoken by the English and that
spoken by Americans among others constitutes a weakness of the language. What may be correct
to the American may not be correct to the Scott for instance.

English has also been adulterated in many forms by different people the world over. There are many
different types of pigeon English all over the world especially in Nigeria, Ghana etc. Jamaican folks
have an adulterated version of the language referred to popularly as “patoa”. All these make the
learning and correct use of the language a daunting and highly challenging task. Many people in
places where such adulterated English language is utilized, literacy goes down and though people
may be able to express themselves in the pidginised version of the English language, they are often
unable to write it.

There are many opportunities that accompany one’s ability to use the English language proficiently.
In stating the advantages, it was made clear that employment opportunities are available more
readily for people who are able to express themselves in the English language aside their mother
tongue.

The world is now considered a global village and English language arguably could be considered the
language of the global village.

Consequently, in order to succeed in whichever industry one chooses, English language is a

prerequisite. Most of the world’s literature is available in English language.

A speaker of the English language can travel all over the world and stay almost anywhere in the
world because of the widespread use of English language.
In world politics, English language plays a centre stage role such that irrespective of one’s language,
the ability to speak and write the English language is a major requirement for qualification for many
positions. An example could be cited of the United Nations Organisation, Africa Union, and other
diplomatic missions.

Lately, many countries including China, France, Italy, Germany and others are making major strides
in their efforts to promote their languages. Many scholarships are offered to students from all over
the world to study in such countries in an attempt to get them to learn the language.

French, German and Chinese are now being studied in many countries. This is a major threat to the
universality of the English language.

Countries like China and Germany are writing software in their languages. They encourage their
people to speak their languages everywhere in the world. The more these advancements continue,
the less popular the English language would become.

The use of pidgin English in some parts of the world is also a threat to the advancement of the
English language. When people become comfortable with the use of pidgin English they may not
find the need to learn the correct grammar of the English language. This is also a threat to the
English language as the number of people proficient in the use of the language continues to drop
over time.

Differences in American and British versions of the English language is also a threat to the survival
and growth of the language and a matter of confusion to many learners of the English language.

In this century, most people also have their strength and weakness, but your strength
you must use it in the right ways and your weakness must need to overcome it because
some weakness will affect your life. Some of us get their ability, so if to be skilled is to
able to perform a learned activity well and at will it will work and help you in your
further life.

Strength
·My strength is quick learner, I am good at time management and easily to adapt into a
new environment

·I have a powerful strength about Organized, it is because when get a importance things
I know how to manage it can I will writes the deadlines in the calendar so I would not
miss an important deadline.

·My another strength is I can independent well, when stay outside I can controlling my
time well.
·I am a guys who can build good relationship with all around me, because my colleague
felt me is the guy was very friendly and good attitude.

·I am the guys that willing to learn some new things that very adventurous and I never
meet before and I like to invention something that very weird for fun.

·I also a positive thinking guys so I also a very kind person, when someone who was
trouble in their work or study I also cheerfully to help them as possible as I can.

· My last strength is I am a good at stopping and thinking about situations I am very

good at stopping and thinking about situations I find myself in the lost, and making the
decision based on rational thought, rather than emotion or instinct.

1st Weakness
My first weakness is I don’t have enough confident in my task. When I doing something
important or make some decision I always needs people guide me, so that why this
weakness can obstruct my life forever.

Overcome
To overcome this kind of weakness is Affirm my Own Abilities Frequently, determine
that what I am good at, give myself encouraging and spend more time to nurture and
sometime when less “Faith” moment try to recall instances that myself is has done well,
this can cause myself to increase more confident it is because in the fact I have ever
done well and also can proof that I also capable of producing the same in the next
decisions. When I do this frequently enough, I can gear myself up to making bigger
decisions in the important moment.

2nd weakness
In this century I think most of the people also have a habit – lazy, because most people
like enjoy but them already over enjoy and cannot arrange time properly. Laziness is the
enemy of productivity, so that why lazy becomes most people weakness. In this cases, I
am no exception, my second weakness is “Lazy”, when my lecturer giving me a task
about his subject, I always lazy to complete it and I prefer last minutes to do.

Overcome
To overcome this weakness I should, removing the block and setting goals. Every time
when the lazy “Monster” come out and threatens my motivation I will think about what
will happen if I don’t do it. So this simple thinking can motivating me continue moving,
so we must have a positive thinking that makes us towards success. Try to learn to
reward myself for the small things that we are completed or try. Occasional reward will
make sweeten the tasks and help myself keep on track. If by rewarding me after
completion the thing that it was hard, sure my motivation can build in automatic
reinforcing. Must always keep most rewards simple but effective, such as extra breaks,
catching a movie, splurging on a favorite snack. By using self-rewards, it will train my
mind to actively. And I become lazy is because the thing that very difficulties without
thinking about the benefits when we finish it, so must focus my mind on the benefits
instead of the difficulties and can challenge it.

3rd Weakness
My third weakness is Procrastination, this mean that people like to delay or last minutes
doing thing. I think that this is the biggest weaknesses for me, because I always meet
Repulsive Tasks. Every time when got assignment I also ignore it and daily just Addicted
in the drama world and always going out for lunch with friends or watching a movie.
Finally when the project or assignment near deadlines I will always struggle in the
important moment. I thought, it is something nearly everyone has had to deal with at
same point in their lives.

Overcome
To overcome Procrastination is set daily goals that will help me complete major projects
and then mark off the days I meet my goals on a printed calendar that will help me to
avoid procrastination in the things that I want to accomplish. And I should create a
focused environment taking steps to minimize distractions and make my workstation as
relaxing as possible this will make it easier for me to get down to the projects. And then
I also need a motivation buddy for “catch” me back from the other world and focus me
set a limit for myself and work on each of the things until perfect.

Conclusion
Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. We must always be
challenges, impediments and less than perfect conditions. Get started now. With each
difficult step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more
and more self-confident and more and more successful. If we spend too much time
talking about creep, it’s easy to dig us into a grave. Get past the “weakness” part as
quickly as possible, so we can get back what’s most important–strength

Introduction
“According to Confucius, you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink.” It
means that no matter we can give the student a good education but we cannot force
themselves to study the modal that the no interest. In this modern century, almost a lot
of students do not have passion in their study; they just prefer their video games,
entertainment and many more. Now, I would like to share how can I drive myself and
how I passion in my study.

Main Body
The first passion in my study is must have a good environment, bacauce when the time
we already got the mood to study then suddenly the weather very hot, its just can make
us quickly study finish and exit this place only, so that might give us the negative study
only. I will choose the surrounding that comfortable and quiet that I would not be
distracted and I can focus more in my study

My second passion is set a goal for my study; I must make myself have a study habit
everyday I will give a task to myself.For Examples, I will set two hours to doing a capter
about the passed year paper, I will finish the passed year question by two hours, if I
don’t have this goal I will because laziness make me just doing a few pages only. So if I
have this goal I will make myself to finish it by two hours, it’s also can train my speed as
well.And then, Make each day count. We don’t have all the time in the world. So focus
on today and do the thing that was set by you.

The third passion is I will organize a study group with my classmate it is because when
sometime we meet about the subject that we feel boring, and then we cannot study
alone that may make us no motivated. So the study group can give us the method when
we facing some difficulties question in our studies.

The forth passion is motivate myself when study because now in this word knowledge is
our capital, A well-educated person is a powerful person. Knowledge is priceless. A well-
educated, knowledgeable person is a person who is better able to navigate and excel
within the world around us. Think about how much more knowledge and ability you are
gaining each time you sit down to study, so we must passion in our study. If we don’t
have a little bit knowledge at the same time we also don’t have power to manage our
real life.

Next, take good notes from your lecturer; always take the notes for a particular class in
the same notebook. Spiral bound notebooks were invented because they solved the
problem of keeping related information consolidated in one place. Take advantage of
this.And then must review the notes regurly, Taking good notes is the first step;
reviewing them regularly is the second. As we keep saying, the best way to learn
anything is to review the information.

The last passion is I make a schedule that about my study life in daily, everyday I follow
the study schedule to help me motivated myself and have passion in my study. I had
plan to study on each subject for one hour. It might help me revision and just spend my
time in study only, so I will just focus in study only, and then after a study war I will set
my mind to enjoying movie, games and hang out with friend after I have finish my own
studies.

Conclusion
In my conclusion, I think that passion in study is the important think to student it is
because if the student no passion in study, they just spend their time doing the useless
things, that just waste their time only, after that if no passion in study also can bring a
disadvantages to student, they cannot gain the knowledge from their lectures, that just
makes they lost their ways only, so be a modern person must learn more practice more
in the real life
