A. ACTIVITY
I. TRY IT OUT: MEMORY GAME
This is a game for seatmates. Make 10 improper fraction cards and 10 mixed
number cards.
Mechanics:
1. Form 2 groups with 5 members each.
2. Shuffle the 20 cards and lay them face down in four rows with five
cards in each row. The pupils take turns in turning the cards.
3. Turn two cards at a time to find out if what are written on them match.
4. If an improper fraction matches the mixed number, keep the cards. If
the cards do not much, turn them face down.
5. After each player had done four turns, the player with the greater
number of matched cards is the winner.

Sample cards
33 28 40 17 31
4 3 5 2 5

1 1 8 1 1
8 9 8 6
4 3 2 5

II. SOMETHING MORE- AGAWAN NG PANYO

Materials: flash cards, handkerchief
Mechanics:
1. Ask for a tall pupil to stand in front of the class. He/She will be the arbiter.
He/She holds the handkerchief and lets it dangle in his/her hand.
2. Divide the class into 2 groups. Ask the first two pupils of each team to stand in
front of the class. They are the first pair of contestants.
3. The teacher flashes an equation of similar fractions.
4. The pupils who gets the handkerchief first gets the chance to give the answer.
The team gets the point if the answer is correct. If the answer previously given is
incorrect, the pupil from the other team will have the chance to get the point if his
response is right.
5. Continue the game until most of the pupils have participated. The team with the
most number of correct answers wins.

Guide Questions
a. What have you observed with the fractions?
b. What kind of fractions do we have?
c. What did you do with the numerator?
d. What did you do with denominator?
e. How can we know if answer is already final?

B. Analysis:
1. How do we add similar fractions?
2. How do we simplify the answers?

C. Abstraction:
To add similar fraction, add the numerators, then write the sum as a fraction
using the common denominator. Reduce the answer to lowest term if possible.
D. Application:
Complete the game board by solving the fractions and reducing it to lowest term if
possible.
