The “Yes-But-How” of Evangelism – zarahlim 11142010 1

Title: Evangelism Techniques: The “Yes-But-How” of Evangelism

Scripture Text: 2 Timothy 4:2-5
“Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and
encourage – with great patience and careful instruction…But keep your head in all
situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of
your ministry.”

Premise: Not everyone is called to be an evangelist, but everyone is called to evangelize.

Not everyone is called to be a pastor, but everyone is called to preach the Word.

Segue to Evangelism
To evangelize is to be an advocate for a cause.

What is our cause as Christians?

It is this:
Christ came to earth, died on the cross for our sins and on the third day rose to life.
With His resurrection comes our redemption. If we believe in Him, we will be saved.

*Lord I Lift Your Name on High – chorus*

Message: Not everyone is called to be an evangelist, but everyone is called to evangelize.

Not everyone is called to be a pastor, but everyone is called to preach the Word.

Mark 16:15 “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.”

preach, evangelize, persuade, cajole, spread the word, convert, make see the light, agitate,
bend somebody's ear (Thesaurus: Microsoft Encarta 2007)

Ever since entering the portals of the church, we hear this often: Share Christ and
His message of salvation to your unsaved loved ones. We have been instructed to
do so, the importance of it magnified with the additional reminders that “We are
Christ’s ambassadors (2 Cor.5:20). “ We are to continue doing the work that Jesus
started here on earth – to reconcile men to God. We have been mandated to take
the “in it to win it” attitude.

Say it with me: I am in it to win it.

I am in [the world] to win [the world] for Christ.

Then comes the most important question of all:

YES, BUT HOW?

S.O.W.

You cannot sell a product if you do not know what you are selling.
You cannot sell a product if you do not know how to sell it.

The same goes with evangeliing.

You cannot talk about your faith if you do not know anything about it.

That’s why it is important to turn to the Scriptures, meditate on it and study

it. Also, open yourselves to other forms of research – read books, attend
seminars, observe key people.
