1.    Janie  is  using  identical  sticks  to  create  a  chain  of  diamonds.  If  she  creates  1 
diamond, she uses 4 sticks. If she creates a 3‐diamond chain (figure 3), she uses

2.  Trailers  that  travel  on  the  road  behind  trucks  are  rectangular  prisms.  A 
typical height for  the  inside  of  these  trailers  is  108  inches.  If  the  trailer  is  8  ft 
wide and 20 ft long, what is the volume of the trailer? 
 
 
 
A  shipping  company  wants  to  ship  its  boxes  in  a  trailer  like  the  one  described 
above.  The  boxes  have  dimensions  of  2  feet  by  5  feet  by 3  feet.  How  many  of 
these boxes can fit in the trailer, if they have to be stacked so that the bottom of

mail. Speedy Delivery charges $20.00 to send a 1‐pound package via the two‐day 
service  and  an  additional  $2.00  for  every  4  ounces  of  package  weight  over  1 
pound. If one of the packages being sent weighs 3.75 pounds, how much will it 
cost to ship it via two‐day mail through Speedy Delivery?

5.   Greta  and  Marge  are  collecting  money  for  a  local  charity  by  taking  donations 
outside of busy local businesses. Hoping to collect the most money today, Greta 
gets to her collection spot and begins collections at 8am. Marge wanted to sleep 
in so she didn’t start collections at her spot until 11am, by which time Greta had 
already collected $45.00. If Greta continues to collect money at a rate of $15 per 
hour, Marge collects money at a rate of $20 per hour and they each take a 1‐hour 
break at 2pm, at what time will Greta and Marge have collected the same amount

and 15 of those people are behind James, how many people are between James
