Final Assignment Elements/Reflective Essay

In this class, I have understood how to use different types of genre, and how to use them in writing, the
rhetorical strategies, why MLA style is required for the essay writing, how plagiarism helped me to improve writing
our own, how to make a claims in writing, there is not only a 5 paragraph essay there is more beyond that, how you
can improve yourself by working in a group project, there is not only one type of essay there are a lot different kinds
of essay, how it is improved my writing by writing every day on a new topic in a journal. All these things I have
learned in this class. But not only these things there are more beyond that when you attend this class.

There are different types of essay in this class I have learned, one of them is summary profile review essay.
In this essay the professor asked us to choose a movie and write a summary about it then write profile about one
person from that movie and at the end write your opinion on that movie. The purpose of this essay was to know the
reader whole story by summarizing in the beginning and then reader get know little bit profile about a person from
that story and finally readers get whole review to know what it stands for. This is the short version of essay which
explains whole thing of the movie. The genres are the most useful to write an essay because mixing genres makes
student writing beyond the limitations not only just five paragraph essays. Genres are the types of writing skill that
hook the readers or descriptiveness that connect readers. There are different types of genre in writing. Such as
descriptive, narrative, argumentized and expository, For example, an argument and different types of analysis. One
of the analysis is rhetorical that explains details in essay. In this unit we covered 3 genres, summary, profile and
review. The key features of summary are objective, informative, concise, main subject, theme. The key features of
profile are engaging detail, hook, interesting subject and key the features of review are well supported detail,
conclusion, opinion.

The challenge was consisting a whole movie to a paragraph summary and selecting movie. Because all
details look so important while you concise to a most important thing from movie. Its little bit challenging at
conciseness in a profile also about person because there was a lot to describe about their achievements.
There are many ways to use genre in writing some of the example are writing blogs, reviewing person or a thing.

The purpose of rhetorical analysis is to write something that inspire, entertain and to understand the logical
things to a reader. It is more influencing the people.

As we know the rhetorical strategies are ethos pathos and logos, which I have learned in this class from the
letter by king from Birmingham jail. It was quite difficult or challenging to identify those rhetorical strategies in that
letter, because the critical sentences were used in that letter by king and more repeated sentence which meaning the
same, that one could not easily identify those strategies used by king. But it was more influenced and empowered
our mind to write an essay on rhetorical analysis.

I have learned from this rhetorical essay that how you write something that you can influence the reader and
I can use this strategy of writing in empowering someone while doing speech.
The three rhetorical appeals are ethos pathos and logos. Ethos is the strategy that a person can use for strong
argument or to stand for something, it is a strategy that is used to raise the spirit. Secondly pathos, it is a strategy to
create emotions, empathy and a feeling in a person. This is the technique that is used in many political speeches and
many advertisements use these strategies to trigger people emotions and their hope. And the lastly logos, the word
itself says logo which means use logical things to prove yourself.

Challenging about the signature essay was to write personal experience regarding the real issue going
around the world. Why it was challenging because it’s not only to write the opinion on a particular situation or your
experience but its actually have to write something that truth behind the issue, and in that your experience. without
knowing whole topic or any situation we cannot judge or write on them anything which was quite challenging for
me.

Well there are pros and cons on collaborative working, for me I have learnt many things from group which
will be more helpful for my future collaborative working. For example, I knew myself that, where I was comparing
to others in writing. But as I said there are some cons which is if you’re not balanced with your group writing they
might feel that you didn’t did your job, which sometimes feel that to take your own time and write by yourself. But
anyway, most matter is I have learned a lot instead of triggering myself.

While choosing topic from the group was not that difficult for us, because we must choose a topic which not
only chase ourselves but for the people who will have the interest in that specific topic. It is more important for the
groups that which topic would work best for all of us.

The challenge in working collaborative is, if you don’t do your job that effects not only you but to the
whole group. Sometimes effect on ourselves can be regrettable, but if something bad happen to others by you is
more difficult to handle.

The challenging part of proposing a solution for the any issue was, we must create a solution with our
experience or opinion. And it was more challenging when you propose a solution should work or not? And most of
us may know all the solutions to a particular situation but nobody wants to take an action to make it happen.
Solutions are all available from people opinion everywhere, but everybody is so busy in their own problems and
they are fighting their own solutions. Nobody even care about anyone as long is it is important to them. Even if you
present a social issue, women issue, child issue, food issue or may be any issue in this world but they won’t take any
action unless it meets their life. So, the solution for every problem would be something that not only solve those
issues going around world but also solve people life issue with that, by that only people will take action.

The Dr. kings’ letter one of the most important resources we have that has best rhetorical strategy that
student can use in their life. And it was not only a letter, it is a speech written by a king while civil war to take an
action, and his words are more than any weapon. It is considered more important because it has the practical result
of his writing.
He wrote the letter to those 8 clergymen which insulted a king and king want to show them his presence that’s why
he wrote a letter while he was in a jail of Birmingham during civil war.

Well used rhetorical strategy in his whole letter by king, one of the example he quoted “Love your enemies,
bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and
persecute you.”

The interesting part is to present your work done and getting good benefits and specially the work done was
helpful for the people and reached to their heart that what we want to tell them. Our topic was so inspirable for
everyone and t which was really open my eyes after reviewed the whole thing when presenting that topic. And, I
knew so many different solutions for the problems by different people in the class for different issues, whether I take
an action on them or not but Iam aware of those issues which is really helpful.

In group work, I have gained knowledge that why they are good in writing and why iam average, and that
really pushed me to work more on it. And I defiantly love to work in group because that how I can improve myself
more. And in the whole class I have improved my writing when I compare myself before this academic year, well it
was challenging for me this class because as an international student and not good enough in English but professor
like you will make us improved.
