Compilation of Ideas/Plans for Classroom Management

I. Motivators- These motivators will be used during class time to give the students a break

from just doing busy work, lectures, or just doing school in general.

a. Pterodactyl game (energizer, to wake students up)

i. This is a fun game where you have to make dinosaur noises in a circle and

of you smile then you are out. It’s a really funny game and it’ll get the

students laughs out and make them smile.

b. Riddle

i. At the beginning of each class, there’s going to be a riddle posted on the

board to get the kids thinking about the class period. I will go through it

and ask what each student thinks the answer is and this will take like 5-10

min. Riddles are fun and interesting, so it will get the students thinking

and curious.

c. Scavenger hunt around the classroom

i. A scavenger hunt around the classroom will consist of looking at what

resources in the classroom will help them be successful for that

lesson/unit. It will be important to show the students what can help them

around in the classroom whether it’s a formula, number sequence, or

definition.

II. Transitions

a. I am going to have transitions in my classroom run smoothly. Not every

classroom is perfect, so in case the class gets out of hand, is too loud, or is not

listening to me, I will have a bell that I will just ring in front of the class. Also to

get students moving from one activity to another I will have the directions on the

board of what to do and what to do when done getting certain supplies or things

done.

III. Rewarding Students

a. I want to reward my students every week. I want to have a math student of the

week. And that student can get a really good score on their test or they could have

really improved on their skills. So I want to make sure my students know that they

are doing a good job learning and working hard in class.

IV. Classroom Philosophy

a. Devices away during lecture time (unless being used for lecture)

b. Inside voices

c. Respect other students’ learning

d. Respect each other in general

e. Complete assignments on time

V. Turning in Assignments

a. When students turn in assignments, there will be a file folder next to my desk in

the classroom that the class will turn their assignments into. Each class period will

have their own folder so the class will know which folder to put it in. Once

everyone that has their assignments, turns their papers in, I will take the papers

right away and put them in my own filing so that I can keep track of those papers

who were turned in on time. There will be a late work file folder as well next to

the on-time assignment folder.

VI. Taking Assessments

COMPILATION OF IDEAS/ PLANS FOR CM

a. To prepare for assessments, I will have one class period before the day we take

the assessment to go over and review what we have been working on. And then I

will also give out a study guide with practice problems. I know that having

practice problems to review before a test is very helpful. I won’t through in the

exact problem from the review on the test, but I will put similar ones on. A lot of

students are not great test takers, so I want to make sure they are reviewing and

then using what they just practiced on the test. Once everyone has taken the test,

then I will give students the opportunity to correct their tests if they didn’t get a

good grade on it. I believe that students should get another chance to correct their

mistakes to get a better grade.

VII. Projects

a. Most projects in my classroom are going to be group project based and its going

to be a lot of creating graphs on poster boards and presenting them in front of the

class about what the graph is showing what rate the graph is either going up or

down at. Group projects will be graded but how well the graph looks and how

well they present it in front of the class.

VIII. Technology

a. Technology will be a huge part in class. I will be using programs like Desmos and

Pear Deck. Pear Deck is a really cool tool to use especially when doing a lecture.

In Mrs. Stutheit’s classroom, she used this programed and showed me the teacher

view. You can see what students are answering or drawing when you put up

questions and things to do on it. So, I will definitely be using that when I teach a

lesson. Desmos is also a great technology tool because it has a calculator and a
COMPILATION OF IDEAS/ PLANS FOR CM

graph you can use. I will on online homework assignments as well but I will

require the students to write out on a piece of paper their work or how they got

their answers to the problems that are assigned just so that I can still see whether

they are actually doing the work instead of just looking up the answers in Google.

IX. Emergency Procedures

a. Emergency procedures will be posted by the front door of the classroom, by my

desk and by the back of the classroom. I think it is super important for students to

know what to do in an event of an emergency. I will also take time to go over

them at least once a month just so that the kids don’t forget. I will also have the

emergency procedures in every students’ folder/binder that they have for my

classroom. Just so that they have it there and they can read it anytime.

X. Grading

a. Grading in my classroom will be really fair. I want most of my grading scale to be

evenly spread out. I want to make sure that assessments aren’t a huge part of the

students’ grade just because they only take a couple and not many students are

great at study and taking tests in general. So mostly the homework and

participation in class will be the biggest thing in my classroom. I will not grade

the homework whether the student got the right answer or not. I will grade

whether or not the student completed the whole homework and whether the

student showed his work on a piece of paper. In mathematics, sometimes getting

the right answer all the time is not possible because you are going to make a few

sign errors here and there. So, I want my students to know that its okay to make

mistakes and that we will learn from them.

XI. Seating

a. I don’t want to make seating charts a thing, but if I have to depending on how the

class is, I will make one. I will make one for the first unit of the year just learn

names of the students, but after that then they can sit anywhere they want.

XII. Lectures

a. Lectures will not include me talking the whole entire time. I want my students to

be active in the classroom and not just sitting at their desk and trying to listen to

me talk the whole time. I am going to have students come up to the board and

show examples and I will have races to make the class more fun and awake.
