I am currently applying to be a student in Covenant College’s degree completion program for
paraprofessionals, the Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education Program (BSECE). Although the
courses are taught in the evening and do not conflict with my responsibilities at the school there will be
ongoing field experiences as a part of the program.
These field experiences tie my duties in the classroom with concepts that are discussed in the college
classroom. On a regular basis, I will be doing assignments that require my work in, and my analysis of, the
elementary classroom.
During the final semester of my course work (i.e., during these months: _____________ of this
year: _______), I will be fulfilling my student teaching requirements for the program over a period of twelve
weeks. 5 to 7 of those weeks may be in my current classroom of employment, provided that the class is a self-
contained PK-5 classroom. (If my employment is not tied to a particular classroom, I will need to be
reassigned to one particular classroom for this eight week practicum.) During this time, the college requires
that I gradually take over teaching assignments and that I have full teaching responsibilities for the class for
at least two of those weeks. In addition, it will be necessary for me to move to one other class at different
grade level in a different school for 5 to 7 weeks. This variety of field experiences is needed to meet the
diversity standards that the Georgia Professional Standards Commission has established for teacher
certification.
Covenant College requires that I submit a letter of cooperation between the school and me in order to ensure
that I will be able to meet the requirements of the BSECE.
Please sign below indicating your willingness to allow me to do the field experience portion of the program
here at this school and at one other school.
The student teaching practicum generally requires one to take a leave of absence without
pay or to resign one’s position. However, one may remain employed at the request of the
employer. I understand and accept this condition.

I do agree to the student teaching portion of Covenant’s BSECE as described above. I understand that the
Field Placement Director of Covenant College will consult me about the alternate 5 to 7 week placement
within my school and will be responsible for making the other 5 to 7 week field placement in a different
school. We will determine the appropriate action for our county/system concerning employment during the
student teaching practicum and communicate this decision to the paraprofessional.
