INTRODUCTION SPIEL OF LRV

When we started this project – 18 months ago, we did not expect to make a great DISCOVERY – the
beauty of the Bicol Language – as revealed through the Bicol Lyrics.

It is fitting that the first song that opened the door for this discovery is the song, “THE PRAYER.”

As you know, The Prayer is a worldwide hit. It is surprising - considering that half of the lyrics in the song
is in ITALIAN – which I am sure, most of us here cannot understand. Anybody na nag iitaliano digdi?
( laughter )

When we attempted to translate the Italian lyrics into Bicol – honestly, we didn’t really know what the
Italian lyrics meant. Ferdie and I just felt the melody and imagine what the composer was trying to
convey.

Lo and behold, when we compared the finished Bicol lyrics to the Italian words – we were so surprise to
discover that the lyrics we wrote in Bicol matched the Italian lyrics not just in essence- but in words. Even
though, as I’ve said, we didn’t understand a single ITALIAN words in the lyrics!!!!

LRV:

Halimbawa ( LRV turns to the projector. Lyrics of THE PRAYER appears in the projector.)

LRV:

Can I call on Moymoy and Evelyn to help me here? ( Moymoy and Evelyn goes onstage )

LRV:

In Bicol this is what we wrote.

Moymoy sings:

MAGING SAMONG ILAW

LRV:

And the Italian words mean

Evelyn sings:

I pray we’ll find your light

Moymoy:

SA BANGUING MADIKLOM

Evelyn:
And hold it in our hearts.

Moymoy

SAMONG MATATANAW

Evelyn:

When stars go out each noght

Moymoy

KUNG MAYONG BITUON.

LRV:

This time, can you sing that phrase with a piano accompaniment.

(Moymoy and Evelyn sings that part of the prayer with piano accompaniment. )

LRV ( after the singers sing the part )

Thank you – Moymoy and Evelyn. Upakan ta mga tugang sinda.

( singers leave the stage.)

LRV continues:

Isn’t the song so beautiful. Bako daw mas nag gayon ang kanta kan satong binikol?

Let me emphasize again – when Ferdie and I wrote the bicol translation we did not understand the
Italian lyrics. We just tried to feel the emotion of the song.

And that is the great DISCOVERY that we made. That Music is UNIVERSAL – and the bicol lyrics is
UNIVERSAL as well.

We discovered that the Bicol Lyrics can stand alongside the English lyrics. Or lyrics of any other
languages.

That our lyrics is as noble, is as grand and is as beautiful as the English lyrics or any lyrics of any other
languages.

That our lyrics can stand along side the greatest lyrics or poetry in the world.

Tonight – we want you to join us in this DISCOVERY.

Co Host: So the first song that will be performed is the song “A Time For Us.”

Co Host 2: And to be immediately followed by the song “Somewhere.”

Any particular reason why Congressman?

LRV:

Alam niyo – every song tells a story. In fact, A SONG IS A TELLING STORY THROUGH SINGING.

Now A TIME FOR US is the Theme Song from the movie Romeo and Juliet. Alam niyo ba ang story ni
Romeo and Juliet?

ETC…ETC…ETC…
