Sub Plan for Monday, March 25, 2019

Schedule:

Block 5 – 6th grade (2 45 minute classes) 8:30 – 10:00

Block 6 – Planning 10:00 – 11:35

Block 7 – 8th grade 11:40 – 1:40

Block 8 – 6th grade (2 45 minute classes) 1:45 – 3:18

Expectations: When kids enter the classroom, they are allowed to directly go and get guitars. When
everyone has had a chance to enter the room and get settled and warm up for 5 minutes and get their
music out, then please call the class to attention by saying “Lock your hands”. They also respond to “If
you can hear me, say shhh” or “If you can hear me, touch your head.”

At the end of class, ask each of the three sections to put their guitars back on the rack and place their
footstools back under their chairs.

 Music for each grade is in the black organizer next to the desk. The top slot is 6 th grade, the
middle slot is 7th grade, and the bottom slot is 8th grade.
o The students already have their music, so this is only for students who have forgotten to
bring their music.
 The Emergency procedures folder is on top of the filing cabinet at the back of the room.
 Students are not allowed to get electric guitars during todays class.

Lesson plan for students:

6th grade –

1. Please have each student practice Ode to Joy line by line (there are 4 lines of music)
2. Remind the students that they have their first playing test in the following class on Wednesday.
The following is a guide to help them through their practice (if they need it)
3. After they have played through the first two lines of music, direct them to play the first two lines
together.
4. After they have played through lines 3 and 4, have them play both lines 3 and 4 together
5. After they have worked through each line of music, challenge them to play the whole piece of
music.
6. If they complete this piece, and feel ready for their playing test in next class, then please have
them start to work on the piece “New World” theme

8th grade –

1. First half of class – have students pair up in order of their part on the piece Vivaldi Concerto in D
major, RV 93; movement 1 and 2
a. They should practice each of the difficult parts to count to make sure they can make
their entrance easily.
b. In movement 1, please direct the students to work on “volume level and dynamics”,
“the slow down at the end of the piece”, and “speed”.
2. Second half of class –mock performance of the Vivaldi concerto
a. If Mr. Marciano is able to come listen at any point during the period, then the students
should perform and get critiqued
b. Remind them we have 3 rehearsals left before assessment on April 6
