This paper gives candidates the opportunity to work as part of a team to plan, carry out and
evaluate a real project in the form of a travel or tourism event.
Candidates can set the event in a variety of contexts related to travel and tourism,
including:
• Introduction
• Aim & Objectives
• Time plan
• Feasibility Study (x2)
• Final Desision
• Business Plan
• Evaluation
• Log Sheets
• Appendices (minutes &agenda’s, receipts, email copies, formal letters, advertising
material, permission slips etc.)
Introduction includes:
An outline of what the coursework asks you to do- a range of possible options should be
explored etc.
Feasibility Studies: each candidate must include at least 2 feasibility studies one of these
must be the eventual event that you chose to carry out
Before you can make a decision on the project you must be certain that your ideas are
feasible.
• This means that you need to think carefully about what type of project you and your
team can undertake, if you do not have clear goals and well defined reasons and if
you have not considered all of the issues, there is a strong possibility that your idea
will not work.
• E.g the following need to be considered in the feasibility study in preparation for the
2012 Olympic games-venues, location, construction, time available, transport routes,
visitors, equipment, staff, legal issues, security, safety, finance schedules-all of the
above formed the feasibility study which then led to the creation of the business
plan.
• As part of the feasibility study for your project there are questions that need to be
addressed before you can prepare the business plan:
o Team roles
o Target Market
o Advertising/Marketing methods
o Transport
o Cost/Budget
o Risk assessment
o Emergency Procedures
o Event timescales
o Contingency plans
Strengths Weaknesses
Opportunities Threats
o After the SWOT is carried out the group must then decide which event/trip is most
feasible
Decision Time- candidates must explain which event they will choose to carry out and why
(evidence of this decision making process must be added)
Business plan (headings as per feasibility Study) Candidates must produce a business
plan for a specific travel and tourism event. They should develop the plan as a group but
present it individually. It should include:
Log sheets are a record of own involvement in carrying out the team event including, they
are personal log/diary of the way in which tasks are carried out throughout the project. ***It
is advised that they are updated daily/weekly as extremely difficult to compile AFTER the
event***
• details of their allocated task(s)
• details of any problems that arose
• how individual team members responded to such difficulties
• details of deadlines and progress made towards each deadline
• an evaluation of their role in the event
• how the team worked through problems
Evaluation:
To be explained in detail
Appendices:
Each group must ensure that they keep all relevant information along the way, e.g receipts,
enquiry emails/responses, any contact with the T&T industry, formal letters, advertising
material, minutes of meetings etc.etc.
Witness Statement:
Each student must include one witness statement (teacher, individual from T&T industry
that you worked closely with).
