Library:

This school contains 2 libraries, one is for the boys and one is for the girls. Girls library is located at the
basement. This library is Co from Prep to Class 5 and is only girls after class 5. Both of the libraries are
handled by the male incharge. There are also 10 computers in this library which seems that they are in
no use. There are 6 total cupboards in girls library. One of the cupboards is for principal as she has some
important documents of schools. In rest if the cupboards books including course books, novels,
encyclopedia, practical notebooks, past papers, religious books, story books, horror books, newspapers,
magazines, dictionaries etc are present there but they all are messed up. They are not arranged in
sequence even in one cupboard there was a keyboard lying over the books. There is no use of that
keyboard in library. This library is quite congested Availability of Internet is also there. There were 3
round tables and single chairs also. 3 whiteboards were also present there. I was also shocked to see
that paper was going on there.

On the other hand, the second one which was of boys is located at the 1 st floor in front of the staff room. This
library contains 3 huge windows which makes it quite airy and full of light. This library is not congested
at all and is fully maintained and arranged. There are 5 cupboards there and all the books are properly
aligned. Religious books are also present here in a separate cupboard. Computers are also present here but
seems that they are not working.

Books for teachers:

There is no separate library for teachers. Not even separate books are given to them. Same books for the teachers
and same books for the students are there. Teacher can issue books for 1 year.

Books for Students:

According to their incharge, DDC scheme which is the latest scheme is applied in the library but I did not see
any of the latest book there. . According to the incharge, students are having 1 period in 1week and
students can also issue a book for 1week based on library card and if they did not return it back they had
to pay fine for it but when I asked the students they said no library period is provided to them.

Science lab:

There is only one science lab in school. It is a very large room with centered partition. One side is of physics and
the other side is of both biology and chemistry. These lab are properly cleaned and are fully furnished.
All the equipment are present there. Equipment like beakers, test tubes, burettes etc are used. Like
equipment, safety measurements are also used i.e lab coarts , gloves etc. All the chemicals are changed
after 1 year. In biology lab, one of the tap was leaking. I felt that number of students are more than the
number of chairs present there. Experiments are done in groups. Teacher leave the practical part for the
end and after completing them all the practical work is done in labs. Difficult experiments are done by
teacher because chemicals are very dangerous and students can split it on themselves. Students learn it
by visual attempts. Easy experiments are done by students.
Equipment for the teacher and Students:

Teachers and students use the same equipment.

Sports:

1 period is given to all the classes in a week but when I asked the students about games, they were not
as such happy with it because the ground there is not big enough for them to play, they are not
given facilities of sports and they are asked to bring sports material from home. They want to
play basketball and cricket but they are not allowed to play due to the school’s new building’s
glass windows. They are not even given full games period, they are back to their classes after 20-
25 minutes. According to the students, proper time and facilities should be there for games.
There are 3 sirs for games for both girls and boys. I have not seen girls having game period not
even a single time. For our observation, girls were given games period just for 15 minutes and
seems that they were giving them information about TP for the first time because none of them
was performing properly. They also started to play a game which was simple catch catch while
walking but none of them played well as they were playing it for the first time. They only focus
on boys according to my observation and boys are also not facilitated. In games period, boys
only have some physical exercises and rest of the period they get bored.

ICT facilities:

There were 2 computer labs. One is for girls and the other is for boys. Girls computer lab is in basement
where library is located while boys computer lab is on ground floor. Girls computer lab is not
maintained at all. Computers were also less than the strength of class. Dusting of the computers
is not done. Computers seems like they are not in use. But on the other hand, boys computer lab
is maintained. Computers were of RM company. There were 17 computers in total. Window 7
and XP is installed in them. MS Office version 7 and 13 is also installed in them. 2 lectures are
provided to them in a week. I also asked a student about computers he said that these computers
sometimes get stucked as they are very old.

Computers for teachers:

In boys computer lab, teachers are given separate computers and internet facility but in girls computer
lab there is no separate computer for teachers. Teacher use the same computer which students
use.

Computers for students:

Each student use separate computer for themselves. Students can only use computers in their computer
period otherwise they are not allowed to come in computer labs.
Multimedia projector, CD/DVD player, TV etc:

Multimedia projector was not present in computer lab but it was used in Play group – Prep class. Use of
CD/DVD player was there in computer lab.

Other Resources you found:

On ground floor, there was a room called sick room in front of principle office. There was a nurse in it.
2 beds were present there for sick students. If a student gets minor injury or minor pain,
medicines were present there with the first aid box and that nurse treat the sick one. If the student
gets deep wound or serious issue, they are immediately sent to the hospital.

Task 2:

Write a reflection of 300 words. Interview from teachers.

This task is only for our understanding and guidance so that we can get to know about the strategies
which teachers prefer to use for their teaching.

1) Aims as a teacher
The highest and the most important aim of every teacher is to clear the concepts of the students so
that if the forget something in exams they can write on their own. They do not want their students to
become book worm. They do not prefer cramming.
2) Talk about their planning ( what procedures do they adapt)
As every teacher there was experienced, all of them were with the same answers that relate the
current topic with the previous one. Examples from daily life should be given to them. Discussion
related to topic should be done in class.
3) Lesson planning and implementation
Lesson plan should be in such a way that students won’t get bore. Discussion and explanation
should be in easy words so that they can understand more properly. They don’t show charts as they
have shortage of time but show them pictures from book.
4) Strategies for managing classrooms
All the teachers were on same point that questions should be asked from the students. Indulge the
students it is easy for teacher to handle large class.
5) Assessing pupil’s learning
They assess the students through tests. They do not prefer taking surprise tests as the students are
not prepared for it so they usually announce the test dates so they can be prepared.
6) Resources most commonly used in teaching
Teachers commonly use textbooks, lesson plans and worksheets while teaching.
7) Any other way of teaching students outside the class ( co-curricular activities)
Most of the teachers said that their school organize some events which are related to teaching the
students outside the class like art exhibition and science exhibition.
8) Their idea about reflection
According to them student can not give their 100%. When teacher performs 110% students will
give their 60-70%.

Strengths observed:
Teachers strength:
Teachers have ability to explain difficult things in a simple way. They have the ability to solve
conflicts, emotional intelligence. Perfect in communication and social skills. Patience,
responsibility and tolerance is found in them. One thing I have observed that no matter from which
silent battle she is going through, she always wear a smile on their face when she enters the class
and it is very difficult. They also have organizational ability as they maintain an organized
classroom environment to help children get used to routines. She carefully plan and prepare daily
student schedules and develop lesson plans. They also make project and task charts. Teaching
requires a tremendous amount of energy. They spend several hours a day on their feet etc.
Students strength:
Students are helpful, co-operative, energetic, enthusiastic, passionate, determined and honest.
Some of the students are very good in the music. Some are very perfect in arts. Most of the students
are perfect is sports. In short every student is perfect in which they are interested. All the students
were always found very excited for their morning prayer.
Suggestions for Improvement:
 Eliminate distractions from the class
 Take notes that the students find useful to them
 Develop a note taking technique that best suits your style. If you are a visual learner, draw
diagrams that help you understand the material covered. If you are an audio listener focus on
writing down what you hear.
 Avoid writing in full sentences. Use bullet points, abbreviations, and symbols. These all
make for quicker note-taking.
 Try and convert ideas into your own words when writing them down
 Students will learn and understand better with the use of AV-aids and the use of
Multimedia.
Overall impression of teaching effectiveness:

Some teachers were having very effective teaching style but few of the teachers were not able to
control the class properly. They were not teaching the students properly as they were busy in
yelling the students and more than half of the time was wasted in maintaining the class
discipline.

Part 5:

Through this observational practice I have learned a lot. I was never a punctual person but
through this practice I learned to be on time not even on time I was there before time and I have
learned, to be a future teacher I should be punctual because teachers are the role models for the
students. My first class for observation was with English teacher. She was also their class teacher
and their favorite teacher. I have observed her many times that she came in class before time and
she talked to the students in the meanwhile. This creates her strong interaction with the students.
One of the teacher was very polite and sweet to us but she was the one who always complain
about us to the principal. Through this observation I get to know how to tackle such people. I’ve
also learned some strategies to manage the class discipline even though I have managed the class
and successfully maintained discipline. I have also learned some strategies of teaching.
According to my prospective, lecture and discussion method are the best methods to teach as it
creates new ideas and is good for large class and students also listens to other’s opinion and
express their opinion, they don’t have to rely on rote learning and concepts become clear after
discussion. Question and answers should be done in class to provoke student’s interest and to
make them attentive who are not listening. Different aspects of the topic should be selected for
the focused discussion and Sufficient time should be allotted to discuss all the issues as the
lesson is already planned in the lesson plan students should know the time limit to reach a
conclusion. I’ve also observed the teachers following the basic strategies which I have learned
before. Before the start of discussion, background information about the topic should be
provided. The teachers who created relaxed environment foster the process of discussion so
environment should not be too relaxed and should not be too strict it should be conducive to
learning. The bestest thing about this school is that every student is given equal rights and is not
judged by their religion and status. Here I have observed that teachers did not give feedback to
students. Teacher should educate students in effective ways of giving feedback that addresses
specific aspects of their learning experiences. I have learned a lot from there. I have also asked
the experience of a teacher there and she shared few of her experiences with me and she also told
me how she managed that situation. Yes it changed my prospective and I think teachers should
add to 'scaffolding of learning' is the main hub to link all the specific teaching and learning
strategies. Better scaffolding is directly proportional to better outcomes. For me teaching is not a
profession it’s an art. Teaching isn’t about making money, and it isn’t the three-month summer
vacation. Reasons for becoming a teacher are deeper than that, and while they are personal, they
are almost all united by the desire to impact peoples’ lives. There is a demand for great teachers
in this country. I have also heard from many people around me that if a person isn’t getting job
they go for teaching. People do not want to become teacher but I don’t know why they have such
mentality before this observation time I was also taking this field very light but after the
observation I have realized that not every person has the ability to teach. For me, Teachers do
more than teach, and their impact extends far beyond the classroom. As a teacher, you are more
than just an educator: you are a mentor, a confidant and a friend. One of the most common
reasons to become a teacher is to make a difference in the lives of as many students as you can.

Part 1:
Students Interview:
1) The Education department of Kinnaird College for women conducted an internship program of 2
weeks which was in one of the best schools of Lahore. The interview was done from 14 students
and every student was in the view that they like the school, its teachers and its principal. They
have no burden of studies and are not pressurized by the teachers. Everybody finds a very
friendly teaching environment. They were glad that they did not face any religion differences.
On the other hand almost every student was very dissatisfied, that they don’t go for the trip,
they also said that only once a week 1 game period is allotted to them and even full period is not
given to them after 20-25 minutes they are sent back to their classes. Few of the students said
they are not allowed to play cricket and basketball due to the new building’s glass windows.
Few were of the point that there are very basic things in canteen. Most of the students were in
the view that rates of the canteen are very expensive.Lays of Rs 25 are sold in Rs 40, oily
samosas and unhygienic food is given.Ground shoud be big. One of the student want to add
some trees. 4 of the students were on the point that proper games facilities are not given. 3 of
the students said that few teachers uselessly yell on students. One of the student said that some
workers don’t follow instructions. One of the student said that water coolers are smelly. Whole
class of 7C wrote many applications to principal that they want to change their white board as
they can’t see properly on it but no response was given on those applications.
2) The things that fascinate most of the students about their school are parties, functions, sports day.
Some of the students are fascinated by annual functions , charismas party. 3 were fascinated by
quiz competition. Many of the students were fascinated by Charismas decorations in school.
3) Almost every student want to do Metric from this school except # students because 2 of them
wants to do O’levels and one was shifting to America.% students want to become headboy and
want to help the juniors. 6 of them wants to join senior team of cricket. Few of the students
want to have a good result in board exams. 1 one them want to donate money to poor and needy
students.
4) Moving towards the skills they have, 3 of the students said that they haven’t learned any skill yet
while most of the students were on the point that they have learnt the debating skills,
presentation skills and reading skills. 5 of the students said that they have learned the skills of
PT, cricket and football through their training, 2 of the students said that they have learned
communication skills.
5) When the question of favorite teacher was asked by them every student was in yhe opinion of
their class teacher as she is very understanding. She also helps them in their personal matters.
She teaches them very well.
6) Most of the students were in the opinion that they would like to change the furniture of their
schools, they will fix door locks and would like to have AC in classes. The whole class of 7C
would change their white board. 6 students want to enlarge their school ground and almost each
and every student emphasized on washroom that they are extreme smelly and no soap is there
sometimes the facility of water is also not there.
