COUNTY OF MARION

MODIFIED OPERATIONS TO THE


COVID-19 PANDEMIC
MARCH 20, 2020

Marion County Government offices will remain open and operational, continuing to provide
essential services to our citizens and visitors during these trying times. In order to do this, we
will have to make some changes that will impact the way that we do business. Beginning
Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. and until public health officials determine that the threat posed by
COVID-19 has passed we will be restricting public access to all County buildings, facilities and
offices. Marion County has declared a State of Emergency that went into effect Wednesday,
March 18, 2020.
We ask for your support, patience and understanding during this time. The citizens, our
employees and visitors are our utmost concern. At the same time, we wish to continue to provide
services to our constituents.
During this time, the following schedules and restrictions will apply. All County facilities will be
restricted to the public. Normal operations hours will remain the same with most being from 8:30
a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Please visit our website at www.marionsc.org for email addresses and phone
numbers for our various departments.
Most of our departments will be available by appointment. Please call ahead to schedule an
appointment

COUNTY ADMINISTRATION BUILDING


The County Administration building will be open from 8:30 – 5:00 Monday through Friday.
Access will be restricted. Call ahead to schedule an appointment.

RECREATIONAL PARKS IN THE COUNTY


All County Parks and Recreation fields are closed until further notice. Please contact the
municipalities in reference to their facilities.

MARION COUNTY MUSEUM


Visits will be by appointment only.  To make an appointment, call 843 423 8299.  The Museum
can be contacted by email - marioncountymuseum@gmail.com
CLERK OF COURT
The Register of Deeds will continue to allow very limited attendance which will be appointment
only. Abstractors will be allowed in the Record Rooms by appointment only and limited to two
people at a time for approximately two hours each.

Child Support payments can be made online at e-childspay.com. Cashier’s check or money
order can be mailed to SDU PO Box 100304 Columbia, SC 29202. You can also pay through
MoneyGram at CVS or Wal-Mart.

General Sessions or Civil matters need to be handled by phone call or appointment only.

Appointments can be made by calling 843-423-8240.

TREASURER
Current taxes can be paid online at www.marionsc.org or mailed to Marion County Treasurer,
PO Box 275, Marion, SC 29571. A drop box is also located in the front of the Marion County
Administration building where payments can be dropped. Current vehicle tax questions can be
answered by calling 843-423-8230. Questions about real property taxes can be answered by
calling 843-423-8228.

COUNTY AUDITOR
Please call the department at 843-423-8205 with any questions about business that needs to be
conducted with the Auditor’s office concerning vehicle tag transfer, homestead & residential tax
reductions.
For High Mileage reduction on vehicle taxes and forms, please call 843-423-8205.

TAX COLLECTOR
Delinquent taxes can be paid online at www.marionsc.org or mailed to Marion County Tax
Collector, PO Box 389, Marion, SC 29571. A drop box is also located in the front of the Marion
County Administration building, where payments can be dropped. Questions about delinquent
taxes can be answered by calling 843-423-8228.
VOTER REGISTRATION
The Voter Registration office will be open from 8:30 – 5:00 Monday through Friday for filing
for partisan elections. Elections and registration will continue as directed by the State, but access
will be restricted and staff will limit the number of people in the office at one time. Call 843-
423-8268 to schedule an appointment.

VETERANS AFFAIRS
No walk-ins – Call 843-423-8255, fax 843-431-5419, or email: gevans@marionsc.org and
ktaylor@marionsc.org for an appointment.

The following offices will be open 8:30 – 5:00 Monday through Friday. Access will be
restricted. Call ahead to schedule an appointment.

ANIMAL SHELTER
The Animal Shelter will not be open to the public during this time. Please call them at 843-423-
8370, if you have questions.
Animal reclaims can be done by calling the number above and scheduling an appointment.

ANIMAL CONTROL
During this time Animal Control will only be responding to emergency calls.
Please call Marion County Communications at 843-423-8399 for any animal control issues. If it
is an emergency dial 911.

ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES
The Environmental Services office will be open 8:30 – 5:00 Monday through Friday. Access will
be restricted. Please call 843-423-8234 to schedule an appointment.

Payments (checks and money orders only) for trash collection can be deposited in the drop box
in front of the County Administration Building or by mailing payments to MCES or Marion
County Environmental Services PO Box 992 Marion SC 29571.

Also, Environmental Services provides the following payment options, one-time payment for the
year and online bill pay setup with your bank.

All manned recycling centers and the landfill will remain open as scheduled.

HUMAN RESOURCES
The Human Resources office will be open 8:30 – 5:00 Monday through Friday. Access will be
restricted. Call ahead to 843-275-6070 to schedule an appointment.

EMERGENCY SERVICES
No visitors except by appointment. Only Emergency Services staff and essential personnel will
be allowed in the EOC. The Marion County EOC is operating at OPCON Level 2 as of March
18, 2020.

The Marion County Airport will be at normal operations.

SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
The following modified operations are in effect at the Sheriff's Office.

Public is being screened as they come to the desk to determine the need for the visit.

No one is allowed to sit and wait in the lobby.

No fingerprints are being done.

MAGISTRATE’S OFFICE
Marion County Summary Courts will be postponed until further notice. Notices will be sent out
with date and time of new trials to individuals with a civil or criminal offense.
All jury trials have been cancelled at this time. Tickets can be paid
at www.marionsc.org/trafficticket or mailed in the form of money order or cashier's check to the
appropriate court.
Anyone coming to the office will be directed by a sheriff's deputy to the window where the
appropriate application will be available.
Only one person will be allowed to go past the front desk in the lobby to conduct business at our
office.
Any questions regarding case numbers, payments amounts or new courts should be directed to
the court of record.

MARION COUNTY DETENTION CENTER


As a result of COVID-19 pandemic, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center is
implementing certain changes that will affect visitation and other services:
Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the online features of many of our services
to prevent having to travel to the Detention Center. More Information and links can be
found at the Detention Center Webpage (https://www.marionsc.org/detentioncenter)
concerning the online services for Video Visitation System and the Commissary/Canteen
Services.

Visitation:
On-Site Video Visitation is suspended until further notice. The Detention Center
will provide $9.00 (equal to 1-30-minute visit or multiple visits totaling 30
minutes) per week free to all registered visitors so that family members may stay
in touch with their incarcerated loved ones during this time. Any visitation
beyond the provided free visitation will be charged as normal remote visitation.

All Clergy will be required to utilize video visitation instead of on-site face to
face visitation.

Attorneys are also encouraged to utilize the video visitation system for their
clients. It is free for the public defender. Any attorney that still requires an on-
site visit will be required to be medically screened by medical prior to entry.

Inmate Phone System:


The inmate phone system is unchanged. The website is www.paytel.com

Commissary / Canteen Services:


The Lobby Kiosk will remain open for now. However, anyone wishing to deposit
funds on their inmate’s account is encouraged to do so through the online site at
https://www.mcdanielsupply.co

Everyone is also reminded they can purchase canteen items directly for their
inmate at the following site https://jailpackstore.com

PRISON CAMP
Please call ahead to 843-423-8280 for information.
No visitors will be allowed at the Camp until further notice.

No public access.
