Definition
Acupuncture is a treatment derived from
ancient Chinese medicine in which fine
needles are inserted at certain sites in the
body for therapeutic or preventative
purposes.

Needle insertion. Acupuncture
needles are inserted to various depths at

needles are very thin, so insertion

often don't feel them inserted at all.
Between five and 20 needles are used in
a typical treatment. persons may feel a
mild aching sensation when a needle
reaches the correct depth.
