A BRIEF DISCRIPTION OF FURNACE IS AS FOLLOWS:-

 No of furnace-2
 No of section-32
 Baking capacity-289080 anodes/year with 28 fire
cycles,279112 with 29 fire cycles.
 Furnace capacity-71403MT/year with 28 fire cycles
74000MT/year
With 29 fire cycles.
 Cycle time-28hrs(as per ALESA ALUSSIS ENGG.)
 Existing cycle time-29hrs
 Furnace gas volume-20,000-45,000 Nm³/hr

EXHAUST FAN SYSTEM:-

Two variable speed driving ID fans are used to create a negative draft
in the flues in normal operation two fans should be operating
simultaneously at the same time. One fan to maintain the negative draft
in the ring main another one to reduce the oscillation during any
change in the target temperature or fire change.
Capacity of each fan is 22500Nm³/hr
Maximum temperature-250ºc.
It is important to note that treatment plant can be bypassed in
energy operation and fumes can directly enter into the ID fans can also
be bypassed and fume can enter into stack directly.

ANODE HANDLING :-
Beaver delivers green anode to the baking furnace #5, anodes
arrives in the the pack of 11. Green anodes are placed on the tilt table
with stub facing upward directly. Now the tilt table rotates the anode to
90º and the STAKER CRANE lifts the anodes and place them on the
green anode conveyor or stacked.
The multipurpose crane(ECL) lifts the packet of 11 anodes and load
them into the pit. After loading ECL crane also fills packing material.
And after baking baked anodes are unloaded and placed on the central
conveyor, which passes through the anode Cleaning Machine.
Cleaned anodes are now pushed back to the baked aode
conveying system where they are transferred to the dispatch conveyor
to a wait for collection by the appropriate STAKER CRANE . Staker
crane place the anodes on the tilt table and anodes are tilted so that stub
holes face upwards directly and then they are transferred to the rodding
room feed conveyor.

FIRING SYSTEM:-

For optimum performance in the aluminum reduction cell, all

anodes have to under go identical heat treatment process inorder to
reach high baked anode quality. The baking furnace fire consist of two
coolers, three burner bridges one under temp/pressure ramp and other
exhaust manifold. During the heating of anodes following phenomenon
occurs:-
 In the temp range of 200º-600ºc mechanical stability of
green anodes decreases.
 Between 250ºc-550ºc chemical stability in the binder
occurs .
 As a consequence of pitch a significant amount of
volatile matter is produced within the anodes.
 Due to the under pressure ibn the flue the pitch volatile
matter produced will be drawn from the anode into the
pit.
 In the temp. range of 1050º-1150ºc final heat treatment of
the anodes take place.
