Project # 2: Cultural Center (55 Marks)

You are to design a cultural center on the given land plot in Al-Mafraq city
(see attached paper). The building has an approximate area of 5000 m2 and
includes the following spaces:

 Make sure to provide parking space for at least 100 cars and some
outdoor spaces

Project phases and Requirements
Phase (1)- Site and Case study analysis (Group work by collaborating
online)
 Research about the building typology-its components and history and
other relevant information-to prepare project theory
 Site visit then preparing site analysis (due to circumstances do site
analysis based on information given to you or gathered online)
 Finding 3 suitable case studies; one regional and two international.
Conducting case study analysis (no local case is required)
 Prepare sketches and diagrams for the project components, to explain
the functional relationships between project elements
 Refer to design standards related to the project to formulate proposed
detailed program
 Present theory, site analysis, case study analysis, conclusions and
proposed program in the form of a .ppt presentation (100 to 150 slides)

Phase (2)- Program + Concept Proposal

 State the final project program
 Present in sketches the primary design concepts
 Prepare schematic drawings including the following:
 Site plan
 Floor plans
 3d massing on site (digitally prepared using software)
 Present concept title, concept statement, conceptual drawings,
schematic site , floor plans and 3d massing on site on a poster (2m X
1m)

 Phase (3)- Pre-final

 Design concept development to prepare and present the project
requirements as a poster (2m X 2m) that includes the following
 Project title, student name and supervisor’s name
 Design concept as both text and sketches
 Site plan scale 1:500
 Furnished Floor plans scale 1: 200
 Two elevations and one section scale 1:200
 Perspectives (1 interior + 2 exterior)

Phase (4)- Final
 The same requirements as in phase (3) to be presented on a poster (2m
X 2m)
