Registered Mail

• Registered Mail is the most secure service that the USPS offers.
• Registered Mail provides the sender with a mailing receipt and, upon request,
electronic verification that an article was delivered or that a delivery attempt
was made.
• Only matter prepaid with postage at the First-Class Mail prices (including
Priority Mail) may be Registered.
• The face (address side) of the registered article must be at least 5 inches long
and 3-1/2 inches high, regardless of thickness.
• Postal insurance is provided for articles with a value of at least $0.01 up to a
maximum insured value of $25,000. Insurance is included in the fee. Postal
insurance is not available for articles with no value ($0.00).
Certified Mail
Certificate of Mailing
• PS Form 3817
• Certificate of mailing service provides evidence that mail has been presented to
the USPS for mailing. Certificate of mailing service does not provide a record of
delivery.
Return Receipt
• PS Form 3811
• Return receipt service provides a mailer with evidence of delivery (to whom the
mail was delivered and date of delivery), along with information about the
recipient’s actual delivery address.
• May be purchased at the time of mailing OR after mailing. The mailer may request
a delivery record after mailing for Express Mail, Certified Mail, Registered Mail,
COD mail, and mail insured for more than $200.00.
• Return Receipt after mailing may be purchased up to 90 days after the date of
mailing.
Delivery Confirmation
• PS Form 152
• Delivery Confirmation service provides the mailer with information about the date
and time an article was delivered and, if delivery was attempted but not
successful, the date and time of the delivery attempt.
Signature Confirmation
• PS Form 153
• Signature Confirmation service provides the mailer with information about the
date and time an article was delivered and, if delivery was attempted but not
successful, the date and time of the delivery attempt.
Money Orders
• Money order fee is $0.30 for military post offices, $1.05 for civilian post offices
($.01 to $500), and $1.50 for civilian post offices (over $500). Exam will most
likely ask about military fees.
• A customer may purchase any amount of money orders, but only $1,000 may be
on a single money order.
• Any customer purchasing over $3,000 in one business day must fill out PS Form
8105-A (Funds Transaction Report or FTR), and show identification bearing the
purchaser’s photograph, name, and address.
• There are 11 digits in a money order serial number. Only the first 10 digits are
relevant.
