Wired for DISTRACTION or DESTRUCTION

the whole world is at our fingertips all thanks to social media.…. That’s what the teenagers of today perceive when
they have access to social media. All this makes them feel so powerful and with such a massive reach . This addiction
hampers with the academic performance of a student as they waste their time on social media instead of
studying.Instead of Yoga, Meditation, learning and research practices, students are wasting
or using their time in likes, shares, chatting and posting selfies. It’s not bad, but if you’re
addicted to it, it’s tough to sign out.

But Like how there are always two sides to a coin, the same goes for social media. When we look at the positive aspect
of social media, we find numerous advantages. The most important being a great device for education. All the
information one requires is just a click away. Students can educate themselves on various topics using social media.
You can attend a lecture happening in America while sitting in India.Furthermore, as more and more people are
distancing themselves from newspapers, they are depending on social media for news. You are always updated on the
latest happenings of the world through it. A person becomes more socially aware of the issues of the world. In addition,
it strengthens bonds with your loved ones. Distance is not a barrier anymore because of social media. For instance, you
can easily communicate with your friends and relatives overseas. Most importantly, it also provides a great platform for
young budding artists to showcase their talent for free. You can get great opportunities for employment through social
media too

Despite having such unique advantages, social media is considered to be one of the most harmful elements of society.
If the use of social media is not monitored, it can lead to grave consequences. It is harmful because it invades your
privacy like never before. The oversharing happening on social media makes children a target for predators and
hackers. It also leads to cyberbullying which affects any person significantly. Social media also creates communal rifts.
Fake news is spread with the use of it, which poisons the mind of peace-loving citizens.Next up is the addition of social
media which is quite common amongst the youth Parents at every moment fear the dangers involved in such addiction.
Thus, the sharing on social media especially by children must be monitored at all times..eg various online games like
blue whale had been a caze among teenagers . Its addiction have cost lives of many .

On the flip side, the internet is an unregulated world that has no form of morals or laws to abide
to. Young people are exposed to gore images of murder victims, accidents, rape cases or even
video footages of gun shootings, violence, verbal outbursts, nudism and explicit sexual content.
All these kinds of gore content are in the domain of young people and when consumed for a
long time can lead to serious mental breakdowns. For instance, they will start having anxiety
attacks and fear of the real world.

In short, surely social media has both advantages and disadvantages. But, it all depends on the user at the end. The
youth must particularly create a balance between their academic performances, physical activities, and social media.
Excess use of anything is harmful and the same thing applies to social media. Therefore, we must strive to live a
satisfying life with the right balance

Global warming

Pengunis see the glaciers melting……………………….

Climate all around the world has seen drastic changes in recent years the
reason? `Global warming’.Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual
increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and its oceans, a
change that is believed to be permanently changing the Earth’s climate. In other
words, the entire earth is getting heated up with the sun’s heat penetrating
into the earth’s atmosphere. The Ozone layer is fast depleting and we cannot
escape the harmful Ultraviolet rays of the sun. This change in the
atmosphere has caused drastic changes in the natural weather conditions all
over the world There is great debate among many people, and sometimes in the
news, on whether global warming is real (some call it a hoax).

But climate scientists looking at the data and facts agree the planet is
warming. While many view the effects of global warming to be more substantial and
more rapidly occurring than others do, the scientific consensus on climatic changes
related to global warming is that the average temperature of the Earth has risen
between 0.4 and 0.8 °C over the past 100 years. The increased volumes of carbon
dioxide and other greenhouse gases released by the burning of fossil fuels, land
clearing, agriculture, and other human activities, are believed to be the primary
sources of the global warming that has occurred over the past 50 years. Scientists
from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate carrying out global warming research
have recently predicted that average global temperatures could increase between
1.4 and 5.8 °C by the year 2100.

The above Changes resulting from global warming may include rising sea levels due
to the melting of the polar ice caps, as well as an increase in occurrence and
severity of storms and other severe weather events. It can lead to ocean
acidification, collapse of tropical rain forests and hugemass es of ice falling
into oceans.

Can we control this ? Yes , a little effort from all of us is required. As

stated earlier, it might be challenging but it is not entirely impossible.
Global warming can be stopped when combined efforts are put in. For
that, individuals and governments, both have to take steps towards
achieving it. We must begin with the reduction of greenhouse gas. This
can be done by using ECO friendly energy efficient appliances.

Furthermore, they need to monitor the consumption of gasoline. Switch

to a hybrid car and reduce the release of carbon dioxide. Moreover,
citizens can choose public transport or carpool together. Subsequently,
recycling must also be encouraged.
