WRITE‐UP ON CONTROL PHILOSOPHY FOR CONDESNATE EXTRACTION PUMP

A] START PERMISSIVE :

CEP to be started manually from local or from remote through DCS or automatically. CEP will start only
if following conditions meet.

a. Level in Hot well is above adequate level, a start permissive signal to be sent for CEP.
(Permissive signal arrangement is not in KSB scope)
(Level Gauge/Level Transmitter of Hot well is not in KSB scope of supply)
b. Discharge Valve in closed condition (only during initial starting for pump) ( Manual Check )
c. Suction Valve in open condition ( Manual Check )
d. Ensure proper venting & filling of pump manually.
e. Ensure vacuum balancing line is open, if suction vessel is under vacuum. ( Manual Check )
f. Check the oil level in bearing housing of pump greater than 94 mm ( Manual Check )
g. Ensure are instruments and interlocks are online & functional.
h. All the Bearing temperatures of main motor are less than 90°C
i. All the Winding temperatures of main motor are less than 125°C
j. All the Thrust bearing temperatures of CEP are less than 85°C
k. Bearing Oil temperature of CEP is less than 70°C
l. Reverse Rotation not activated.

B] NORMAL OPERATION:
CEP will be in normal operation, provided that all the instruments will be observing normal operating
parameters than the set values indicated elsewhere in this Document.

C] STOP PERMISSIVE:
No Stop Permissive applicable.

C] ALARM:
1) Alarms will be in given if following conditions arise during normal operation.
a. Level in hotwell reaches low level if L< Min Value
b. Temperature at Pump Thrust bearings rises above 85°C
c. Discharge valve failed to open at start-up with a time delay of 60sec.(adjustable) for pump after
receiving start signal.
d. Any of the Temperature at Motor DE & NDE bearings rises above 90°C
e. Any of the Temperature at Motor winding rises above 125°C
f. Direction of Rotation in reverse direction.
g. Bearing housing Vibrations of CEP rises above 6.3 mm/s
h. Bearing housing Vibrations of CEP Motor rises above 2.3 mm/s
i. When flow is lesser than Qmin 160 cubic meter/hr

LOGIC DIAGRAM AND CONTROL NARRATIVE OF CEP

D] PUMP TRIP:

1) Pump will be tripped automatically when following conditions are arises.

a. Level in Hot well tank is very low
b. Any of the Temperature at Motor winding rises above 125°C
c. Any of the Temperature at Thrust bearing of CEP rises above 95°C
d. Any of the Temperature at Motor DE & NDE bearings above 100°C
e. Bearing housing Vibrations of CEP rises above 9.5 mm/s
f. Bearing housing Vibrations of CEP Motor rises above 2.8 mm/s
g. Suction valve not fully opened.
h. If flow is less than 150 Cubic meter/hr then CEP will Tripped. CEP will operate only for 30 seconds
after this point.

Notes :‐
a. This write up is for all the CEPs in the package.
b. Vibration and temperature alarm/trips will be given only after time delay of 10 Secs for a safe
operation.
c. Other mentioned majors should be taken before commisioning the pump as per O&M manul.
