MYSQL

MySQL Advantage :
o Relational Database Management System (RDBMS): MySQL is a
relational database management system.
o Easy to use: MySQL is easy to use. You have to get only the basic
knowledge of SQL. You can build and interact with MySQL with only a few
simple SQL statements.
o It is secure: MySQL consist of a solid data security layer that protects
sensitive data from intruders. Passwords are encrypted in MySQL.
o Client/ Server Architecture: MySQL follows a client /server architecture.
There is a database server (MySQL) and arbitrarily many clients
(application programs), which communicate with the server; that is, they
query data, save changes, etc.
o Free to download: MySQL is free to use and you can download it from
MySQL official website.
o It is scalable: MySQL can handle almost any amount of data, up to as
much as 50 million rows or more. The default file size limit is about 4 GB.
However, you can increase this number to a theoretical limit of 8 TB of
data.
o Compatibale on many operating systems: MySQL is compatible to run
on many operating systems, like Novell NetWare, Windows* Linux*, many
varieties of UNIX* (such as Sun* Solaris*, AIX, and DEC* UNIX), OS/2,
FreeBSD*, and others. MySQL also provides a facility that the clients can
run on the same computer as the server or on another computer
(communication via a local network or the Internet).
o Allows roll-back: MySQL allows transactions to be rolled back, commit
and crash recovery.
o High Performance: MySQL is faster, more reliable and cheaper because
of its unique storage engine architecture.
o High Flexibility: MySQL supports a large number of embedded
applications which makes MySQL very flexible.
o High Productivity: MySQL uses Triggers, Stored procedures and views
which allows the developer to give a higher productivity.

Disadvantages / Drawback of MySQL:

Following are the few disadvantages of MySQL:

o MySQL version less than 5.0 doesn't support ROLE, COMMIT and stored
procedure.
o MySQL does not support a very large database size as efficiently.
o MySQL doesn't handle transactions very efficiently and it is prone to data
corruption.
o MySQL is accused that it doesn't have a good developing and debugging
tool compared to paid databases.
o MySQL doesn't support SQL check constraints.
SQL SERVER
Microsoft SQL Server Advantages:
o Use of active data:

It has as a benefit for users a greater performance of data by including

functions such as creation of reports or reports, data analysis.

o Client-Server Mode:

It has the advantage of being able to be executed with the specific

functionality where the data is hosted on the server and the network
terminals can only access the information directly.

o SQL Security:

This function is basically responsible for the administration of permissions at

the server level as well as allowing reading or not reading execution and
security in all procedures.
Microsoft SQL Server
disadvantages:
o SQL Server compatibility limit can only be executed exclusively on Windows
servers as well as have problems of incompatability with other applications
coming from other platforms.
o Limited use that only applies when many companies to acquire the use of SQL
server try to execute activities or tasks for free which is not favorable due to
the number of limitations or restrictions which is not recommended it can only
be used in a complete way with clearly defined and serious objectives that
focus on the productivity of the company.
o Limit of resources with respect to RAM for installation and use of software.

ORACLE
Oracle Advantage :
o Centralized control and management system:
This allows the data to be controlled completely from a tabular exchange
since it is responsible for assigning, adding, deleting records and modifying
them.

o Standardization:

Allows standardization between different implementations of SQL.

o Grouping of transactions:

It allows to group several transactions and divide each activity into segments
and thus achieve a better performance in less time possible.

o Performance methods:

Applies methods to improve the database through a Cluster application.

Oracle Disadvantage :
o Incompatibility and complexity:

This is presented as a limitation in the areas of time, data syntax, and

character sensitivity.

o Management of the structure:

Oracle often tends to be complex or sometimes difficult to manage for certain

activities, so it is recommended to install a basic version and configure with a
minimal customization.

o The price:

Many times there is no price or a specific budget for the Oracle license as it
usually changes over time depending on the change of policies, patches and
updates by the company.
