State Industrial Area Development Board


(SIADB)

Introduction:

 The SIADB is a statutory board constituted under the industrial areas


development act, of the respective state government in India.

 It was constituted under Sec.5 of State Industrial Areas


Development Act, [SIAD Act] 1966.

 SIADB provides for expeditious acquisition of lands for industrial and


infrastructure purposes.

 It prepares industrial plots of various sizes of suit different industries along


with the requisite infrastructural facilities.

 For Example, the Gujarat Industrial Areas Development Act, 1966, in


Gujarat.
Aims and Objectives:
• Promote rapid and orderly development of industries in the state.
• Assist in implementation of policies of Government within the purview
of GIAD Act.
• Facilitate in establishing infrastructure projects.
• Function on “No Profit – No Loss” basis.

Functions:
• Acquire land and form industrial areas in the state.
• Provide basic infrastructure in the industrial areas.
• Acquire land for Single Unit Complexes.
• Acquire land for Government agencies for their schemes and infrastructure
projects.

Social Economics Zone (SEZ)

 A special economic zone (SEZ) is a specifically delineated duty free enclave


deemed to be foreign territory for the purpose of trade operations, duties and
tariff.

Industrial Areas

 GIADB has so far developed 182 industrial areas in 33 districts of the


State.

 A typical industrial area developed by the Board will have following


Infrastructure facilities:

 Approach roads and internal roads with storm water drains.


 Power supply and street lighting.
 Water supply.
 CETP/STP Technical Training Centers and R&D centers.
 Common Facilities Centers to accommodate Banks, Post Offices,
Telephone Exchanges, Dispensaries and Canteens, among others.
 Power Sub-Stations
 Hotels & Hospitals
 Housing tenements to provide housing facility to the labour force
working in the industrial units.

Conclusion

 The SIADB is a statutory board constituted under the industrial areas


development act, of the respective state government in India.
 The basic facilities developed by the SIADB in industrial areas include
roads, drainage, water supply and power supply.
 The SIADB also provides various common amenities in industrial areas
such as banks, post offices, telephone exchanges, telecommunications,
fire stations, police outposts, canteens, ESI dispensaries, bus depots, and
petrol bunks.
 It also makes provision for technical training centers, research and
development centers and common effluent treatment plants.
