Critique Paper

The concert we had attended Bayanihan @63, performed by the Bayanihan folk arts
foundation Inc. orchestra in Cultural Center of the Philippines alongside in Manila Bay. This was
the first professional orchestra concert I have attended and the first since I was a student at San
Beda University, Manila. After the show of the Bayanihan fold arts foundation, when we went
outside I merely asked my classmates how their show was, then their responses have many
positive characteristics in terms of various criteria on that performance.

At the beginning of the concert, the audiences were start singing Philippine national anthem
as respect to our country. The concept of this performance was really clean this it is easy to
understand what they’re implying to us. The costumes, props and the spotlights are very
satisfying to watch and it is a colorful so that we’re tending to see every performer one by one.
All the scenes and part of the performance are the best for me because in the first place, I get
already impressed in the first scene, which is the Bayanihan, which is the neighbors carrying a
hut or house to a new location. After that part, it took me realized many of us have doing our
effort in order to achieve a particular objective. People nowadays use it to describe an
outpouring of community spirit as people give their all to the common good, without expecting
recognition or personal gain. The atmosphere of the concert was seemed to be energetic yet
funny particularly in the scene of Scarecrows where they’re moving whenever the farmer leaves
it. Also, in the fiesta part shows the attire of Filipiniana and other things that usually wear by
the ordinary people in past years. In terms in instruments, all of it was also used by Filipinos,
there’s some music of Spanish style that adopted by the Filipinos especially in piano with
Spanish songs. And also the dragon dances that projected in the video wherein in represents
the Chinese culture that were also adopted by them. In all these performances, our culture is a
big reflection of our great and complex history. It is influenced by most of the people we have
interacted with. A blend of the Malayo-Polynesian and Hispanic culture with the influence from
Chinese, Indians Arabs, other Asian cultures and mostly the Spanish really contribute to the
customs and traditions of the Filipinos. Filipino culture is unique compared to other Asian
countries, and beliefs apply every day in the life of the Filipinos and reveal how rich and
blessed the culture the people have.

Exegesis

It is a well-known fact that sometimes we might tend to forget things easily or

naturally from the past years particularly for those events that did not contributed a

remarkable moment to us, but there are also moments that we mostly give significant in

part of our lives that leads to the unforgettable experience yet irreplaceable.

The oldest object that my Mother found in our house is cabinet closet that brought by

my great grandmother way back in 1965. This artifact has a definitely a huge impact for

me, because it remembers my bad side personality back in my childhood days. When I

got scold by my parents, I always go with that cabinet and get shut inside of it. It took

me a few minutes to stay inside in order to calm my emotions. Sometimes me and my

brother were playing hide and seek and we always use this at that time.
In the past decade, When the strong typhoon Ondoy came in, almost the whole part

of our house flooded and fortunately we have this cabinet that we used as a

cohabitation and it made us safe during that calamity. After that, we realized that this

cabinet symbolized the guidance and protection of my great grandmother wherein led

us to be safe and fortunately no one got hurt from us.

By these events that happened, it absolutely gave me a huge impact until now for

this artifact. I will really not forget this, and it is impossible for me to forget this. These

moments and experiences that I have been through taught me that even though my

beloved relatives are no longer here, they still looking for us and there are times that we

are not thinking about them but we never expect what will miracle they give to us.
