Re: Unit 3 Project Proposal
Date: October 22, 2010

The project I have picked is to design the new training facility at the Bison Sports Arena.
I will set up a design for the new training facility. I will set the dimensions, what
equipment will be in there, and how it all will be set up. All D-l athletics have newer
facilities and equipment. Now NDSU will get an upgraded training facility at the 40-year
old Bison Sports Arena. This memo is meant to give a description of my unit 4 project.
Situation:
On September 27, 2010, Sanford Health made a $10 million donation to NDSU's
Building the Competitive Edge for Bison Athletics. NDSU is planning on remodeling the
Bison Sports Arena, updating it for Bison athletics, especially the basketball, wrestling,
and track teams. Within the Bison Sports Arena is the weight room in which all the teams
train. With how small the weight room is, the coaches cannot have two big groups/teams
in there at one time. With this situation, the coaches have to make sure that when one
team is in there with the whole team or with majority of that team, no other full team can
be in there. This is a problem because the players are student-athletes and they only have
so much free time between classes and practice that if two teams have the same time to
work out, one team will have to switch times. If they do that, some players will not be
able to work out with their team because of class, so they will not have an opportunity to
work out with their teammates. Being able to work out with their teammates is a big part
of building team chemistry and all the players feeling apart of the team.
Project Summary:
I will be making a power point that has slides of the BSA weight room as it is now and
how I plan on designing it. This project will be set up as if I were turning it into Sanford
Health and NDSU Athletic Director for review. All the research I will be doing is on
what NDSU has planned for the remodeling of BSA, how other colleges have their
athletic training facility set up, and what the strength and conditioning coaches at NDSU
would like to see around the weight room. This project will also be set up to fit the
criteria of the individual project for English 320. I will make a power point, which will
show the design of the remodeled BSA and the design I have for the training facility and
how I think it will fit into how NDSU has envisioned it looking. Also under each picture
will be a caption describing the picture and how things fit into the overall building. There
will be twelve slides with the presentation taking around 6 minutes, with each slide being
up for 30 seconds at a time.
Details: Writing
There will be minimum writing. I plan to have just captions below each picture to help
describe the pictures. Even though there will be only small amount of writing, the writing
will be very helpful.
Details: Visual Aid
Within the power point, the slides will have pictures from the weight room now and how
I plan to have it set up. There will be a couple of pictures from what NDSU has planned
to remodel the BSA to look like. These pictures will be in there to show how my design
of the weight room will fit into how the BSA will be remodeled.

Evaluation Criteria:
Miss Enger will grade this project on the progress made throughout the process of the
project and the final product. She will use the rubric set up for the English 320 individual
project. I will also be grading my own progress in an evaluation memorandum that will
be handed in with progress report and the final project. Miss Enger will also use the
grading rubric that is the next section, to grade my proposal.

Objectives:
Learning objective:
I have worked with power point for many years, but I have only used power point once
since college, so I will have to get used to the newer vision of power point. With this
project, 1 will have also to learn how to design pictures so it will show what my design is.
I will also need to learn more about what is needed in a college athletic training facility. I
do have experience in college training facility, but I have never seen a newer facility, so I
will need to learn what the newer facilities have.
• I will learn how to use photo shop and other photo design software
• I will learn more about the newer vision of power point
Practical Objective:
• With this project, I will learn more about a training facility; this knowledge is
important since I plan on being strength and conditioning coach when I finish college.
• 1 will also learn how to set up a project proposal, which is important because as I
talked to coaches at the BSA, I learned I will have to do this at times throughout my
career. Comment [JBE8]: Good objectives.

Method:
I will research and learn how to design pictures to show my idea of what the new BSA
training facility should look like. I will also do some research on other collegiate athletic
training facilities to get more ideas to fit the new look facility '

you will need to do. but what are smaller steps you
will need to complete? Where will you go to
compile your research? What will you do to refresh
Timeline your memory of PowerPoint? Will you need to
Oct 18-22 spend time actually putting the information you team
and your ideas for the weight room into the
PowerPoint?

Comment [JBE10]: Remember to include steps

like completing your progress report. Your timeline
should correspond directly with your methods
section too so each thing either listed in the methods
or timeline should appear in the other place as well.
The methods section just explains each step more in
words and in more depth while the timeline is more
brief and visual.

would be good for establishing information about the
situation you are working in, but it seems as though
you will need additional sources like information
about other school's weight rooms to effectively
complete your research. Add more sources that will
help you with content not just context.
