Task 2: Answer the questions!
From paragraph 1, who does 'they' refer to many drug addicts/drug addicts
From paragraph 2, what is the reason cited for teenage drug addiction?therefore something so
irresistible that the teenagers just have to try it. Somehow, teenagers are more curious to
discover the forbidden fruit
From paragraph 3
a). what are teenage drug abusers escaping from? For many teenagers, drug abuse is a mere
escape. They use drugs to get out of their misery, pain, confusion and loneliness. Some
teenage drug addicts grow up without guidance from their parents, and so they resort to
drugs.
b). Give two other reasons for drug abuse among teenagers,
Because,
They try drugs to please their friends or to be part of a group.
They are simply bored and have no deeper interests. They see drugs and alcohol as a pastime
to be explored.
Teenagers often feel a social imperative to experiment and experience all that we can while
they are still young. They feel like it is a “now or never” situation. They have to try drugs
now, before they become adults and have responsibilities. They feel like if they don’t try it
now, they will be missing out

c). give two characteristics of teenage drug abusers.

People dependent on drugs will usually blame others, or bad luck, or life circumstances, for
their troubles. They become experts at making excuses to deflect responsibility and protect
themselves from exposure.
Much of it may involve stealing, either drugs or the money to buy them. But addicts often
become impulsive and lose their capacity to make wise decisions, which leads them into
other kinds of trouble as well.
Eyes flushed, the pupils are smaller or larger than normal
Complaints of mouth pain, embossed spots around the mouth.
Appearance and personal hygiene is declining: it looks dingy, messy, shows lack of concern
about appearance
A strange odor that wafted from the breath, body, or clothing
Shaking, tremors, speech slurred or cannot be understood. Coordination is broken or unstable
From paragraph 5, name one way in which parents could help their troubled children the
name one way is communication. One effective tool in the fight against teen drug abuse is
communication. Troubled teens need some form of outlet from the problems or depression
they are facing
In your own words, explain why stopping drug abuse is not simply a matter of willpower.
According in my opinion because, addiction is not a choice. No one plans to become addicted
to drugs or alcohol, but this develops when the power of choice disappears. At some point,
we were no longer able to control the decision to drink, use drugs, or take part in other
unhealthy behaviors and willpower suppresses trauma and than humans forget too quickly.
Even if our willpower allows us to give up alcohol or drugs for a short period, this is not
likely to last without other treatment and methods of support.
