Title

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Surveillance Aircraft with Expandable Wing System and
Powered Solar Cell for More Energy Efficiency
Abstract
Indonesia is one of the countries with the largest territorial waters with abundant
natural resource potential. Indonesia has a high export value in terms of marine wealth.
Especially in the 3T areas (terluar/outermost, tertinggal/backward, and terdepan/foremost)
Indonesia, which many areas in the form of small islands that require ongoing supervision.
Supervision is very necessary so that the gaps in the territorial waters of Indonesia do not
become an entrance for unscrupulous perpetrators of illegal fishing. Therefore, the
government must be able to manage and supervise the availability of marine resources.
Supervision is currently still conventional in fact, it needs to be developed in unmanned
vehicles. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) now can be developed in monitoring. Unmanned
aircraft is an unmanned vehicle with a remote control system, so it can reach areas that are
difficult to monitor and can report the condition of events directly.
Unmanned aircraft have various types that are designed following the needs of the
mission. Many UAV aircraft are designed in the type of glider, trainer, and sport. Glider and
trainer types of aircraft have slow flying characteristics while sports have fast flying
characteristics. The design of a UAV monitoring aircraft by adding innovation to the wing
section is by using an expandable wing system on the Flywing aircraft type. Innovation to
expand wings by adding length to wingspan. The wings of the aircraft can be expanded to
half of the previous area. The addition of the wing area can increase lift and not interfere with
the aircraft's airfoil. UAV aircraft with this innovation has two different characteristics. The
first characteristic is the aircraft with the type of sport the aircraft uses quickly to achieve the
target of monitoring, in addition to that the type of sport is used for the pursuit of illegal
fishing vessels. The second type is the Glider that is used when carrying out monitoring
missions. Two types in one aircraft can be more efficient in terms of power use and time. The
second energy powered by solar cells. The use of renewable energy was chosen because it is
capable of charging while carrying out missions to be able to optimize and expand the
surveillance area.
The expected result in this research is the creation of a UAV aircraft so that it can
become one of the solutions in the monitoring of territorial waters that can report conditions
directly, to preserve natural wealth. UAV aircraft on the other hand with the innovation of
expandable wings and the powered by solar cells can make more energy efficiency.
