To whom it may concern,

PRE-REGISTRATION PHARMACIST - POSITION NUMBER: 014666

I wish to be considered for the above-mentioned pre-registration pharmacist position. I am currently a

fourth-year pharmacy student at the University of Sydney. In addition, I have 8 years of’ experience in
multiple community pharmacies. I am currently employed as a Pharmacy Student at Thurn’s Pharmacy in
Panania. I commenced this role in 2012 and have continued to develop and hone my communication and
management skills. At my current role I have been the Quality Care Pharmacy Program (QCPP) leader,
managed junior pharmacy assistants, and run the wWebster packing program. At presentcurrent, I have
been working on the Saxenda program and managing a local walking group.

I have dealt with several clinical scenarios at my workplace including contacting the doctor about medication
changes, identifyingnoticing dose discrepancies, suggesting therapeutics to consumers, and reviewing
patient medications. I have been in situations where I have had to speak to other health professionals when
an error or a concern needs to be addressed. Recently, I contacted a doctor who prescribed a patient her
husband’s’ amlodipine instead of her own apixaban; a. A possiblye dangerous hairy situation that was
remedied by a new prescription. I have been fortunate enough to help my pharmacist in managing
medication reviews and counselling programs such as the afore mentioned Saxenda program and
wWebstercare. I work with wWebster patients, primarily counselling them on changes and speaking to their
doctors about new prescriptions, S8 drugs, and medication concerns. Recently, I was successful in working
with one doctor to lower a patient’s intake of Endone, thus lowering her falls risk. I also have experience in
simple compounding such as solutions and creams, which is a skill I would love to further improve in a
hospital setting.

I have worked in management positions and can both manage and work in a team. I have learnt to
accommodate others while still standing firm when required. At my current workplace I took a lead position
in helping ready the store for the current COVID-19 pandemic:. I held a brainstorm with mye peers and the
next day we enacted new social distancing protocols, a new online social media messaging service, and a
WHS review. This allowed us to safely run the pharmacy safely while using our social media presence to
accommodate patients and soothe community fears. This is something I have been consistently working on
over the last few weeks along with my other work duties, university, placement, and family concerns. If
anything, this is a demonstration of my ability to communicate and, to work in a team, while remaining
being flexible and resilient. I would love the opportunity to work at your hospital to further hone these skills
and to gain new ones.

I want to challenge myself to a new environment in a new state. I was lucky enough to do my placement in
Katherine, NT last year. It was an awe-inspiring experience that has led me to volunteer in Sydney in Mirage
Rural Health Club and attend Indigenous health nights and events. I would love the opportunity to work with
Indigenous groups to improve their healthcare. I loved working with community groups in Katherine and
enjoyed the cultural complexity of the people in the region. I learnt so much in this small two- week trip and
it has inspired me to aspire to work with Indigenous groups. This position is my dream job and I would be
eternallyhighly thankful for the chance.
Kindest Regards,

Hannah Boag

Objective
I am a pharmacy student who has worked in community pharmacy for the past eight years. I would love to
use the clinical knowledge and skills I have picked up at both university and in the community and apply
them to a hospital setting.

Education
Bachelor of Pharmacy | In Progress [2020] | University of Sydney

Higher School Certificate | 2013 | East Hills Girls Technology High School

Employment History
Pharmacy Assistant/Student + Social Media Officer | Thurn’s Pharmacy | 02/2012 - Current
 I was originally employed as a Pharmacy Assistant in 2012. I am currently employed as a Pharmacy
Student. My roles in the pharmacy are to aid the Pharmacist in dispensing, compound simple creams,
pack Wwebster packs, train junior staff and take care of the front of shop. I have been the Quality Care
Pharmacy Program leader of our shop twice, in 2017 and 2019.
 I started a Facebook account for the store to educate our local community about healthcare and advertise
the pharmacy. Since starting this up, I have included three junior pharmacy assistants to assist in
answering enquires and monitoring the page.
Pharmacy Student | Priceline Wynyard | 30/03/2020 – 10/04/2020
 I undertook my 4th year placement at Priceline during the COVID-19 pandemic. I aided the Pharmacist
with general enquiries and information. I also booked in flu vaccinations, helped dispense and counselled
patients.

Pharmacy Student | Katherine Amcal Pharmacy + Terrace Pharmacy | 22/07/2020 – 02/08/2020

 I undertook my 3rd year placement in Katherine, Northern Territory. Katherine Amcal Pharmacy was a
busy pharmacy located in the local shopping mall. As we were in peak tourist season, I spent most of my
time dispensing and counselling elderly tourists. Terrace Pharmacy looks after the local indigenous
communities. Here I packed wWebsters using a packing robot, dispensed prescriptions, phoned and
spoke to Wurli-Wurlinjang Aboriginal Health Service about prescriptions and counselled indigenous
patients.

2
Pharmacy Assistant | Ralph’s Pharmacy, Campbelltown + Leumeah Pharmacy | 02/2015 – 02/2016
 Ralph’s Pharmacy and Leumeah Pharmacy are both owned by the same Pharmacists. I would spend half
my week at the busy Ralph’s Pharmacy and work the weekend shift at the quiet Leumeah Pharmacy. As
Leumeah was a small pharmacy, it was only me and an elderly Pharmacist, so it was always busy despite
the lower prescription count. It was working with this Pharmacist that gave me the push I needed to
enroll in a Pharmacy degree. He is now retired, and we go out for coffee every six months.

Sales Assistant | Touch of Paris Perfumery, Bankstown | 11/2013 – 02/2015

Waitress | Sizzling Club, Panania | 02/2012 – 01/2013

Server + Kitchen Hand | Pizza Hut Revesby | 01/2011 – 07/2012

Volunteering
General Council (RHST Representative) + Pharmacy Representative | Mirage USYD (National Rural
Health Student Network)| 10/2019 – 10/2020
 My role as a Rural High School Trip (RHST) Representative is to organize the yearly high school visits
to rural areas across Australia. This year I liaised with school in the Jervis Bay area to allow a group
of ten university health students to run a workshop with varying groups of high school students.
Unfortunately, our trip was postponed three days prior to departure due to the COVID-19 pandemic
and I have scheduled it for the end of the year.
 My role as a Pharmacy Representative is to organise rural pharmacy information nights and act as a
point-of-call for pharmacy students. As three of the general council already have positions, this year
we are sharing this role.

Founder + Organiser | Panania Health Hearts Walking Group | 06/2019 – Current

 I started up the weekly walking group to target local customers from my workplace (Thurn’s
Pharmacy). Using the company Facebook page, I arranged the walking group. Due to the pandemic,
our walking group is on hold but will continue later this year.

Skills & Abilities

MANAGEMENT
 I have experience in managing a team. At Thurn’s Pharmacy I manage a team of Pharmacy Assistants in
the organisation of the front of shop.

COMMUNICATION
 As a Pharmacy Assistant turned Pharmacy Student at Thurn’s Pharmacy, one of my roles is to ensure
optimal staff performance and liaising between Pharmacy Assistants and our employer. To achieve
this objective, I collect feedback on staff and evaluate both performance of individual staff and shop
performance overall. Two years ago, I implemented quarterly team meeting to address staff concerns
and ensure standards of quality care were being met.
Myself, my employer and a Pharmacist would chair the meeting in a relaxed environment, the last
meeting being in a local café, to promote positivity and good will amongst the team. Our staff are a
diverse in ages and nationalities and can have individual clashes in personality. These meetings and
training sessions improved lines of communication between staff, Pharmacists and employers and
guaranteed staff were well trained.

LEADERSHIP
 I am a graduate of the University of Sydney Leadership Program and have completed multiple additional
training modules, attended Indigenous Health nights and conferences such as NAPSA, and have taken any
opportunity for growth afforded to me. These modules and commitments have not only broadened my
understanding of pharmacy, but they have motivated me to develop and build on both the skills I do have
and those I wish to acquire.
 I have been fortunate enough be included in multiple volunteering roles and committees. I have used my
two roles on the Mirage general council as opportunities to display my leadership qualities and achieve
desired outcomes.
