As a part of ES standardization , Eaton has introduced a design change to the Extended Service Single Anchor Pin
15” x 6”, 8.625”, 16.5” x 5” , 6” , 7” , 8.625” brake shoes. A new proprietary manufacturing process ( Hot Staked-Pat
Pending) under development since 1993, will be utilized for these shoe assemblies. This design change is a product
improvement over a thirty year old design. Extensive field and laboratory tests have confirmed improved durability over
the current ES shoe family.
1. Greater durability from heat treated roller and anchor pin slots. When combined with Eaton’s larger anchor pin,
this change provides the most durable shoe in the industry.
2. Improved retainer spring and mounting position. A new spring is located in line with the anchor pin, farther from
the heat of the drum. (which reduces susceptibility to spring stretching ).
4. The new shoe manufacturing technique utilizes fine blanked webs, interlocking of the web and table, resulting in
reduced heat distortion during processing.
The new ES II (Hot Staked-Pat. Pending) brake shoe is scheduled for production phase in during April, 1996. The current
ES shoe design will be phased out of production by July of 1996.

It’s recommended that the short end of the spring (coil end) be installed in the upward position on the top shoe.
2. Hook the retaining springs to the hole in the webb of the upper shoe. Hook with short end of spring up (coil end).
3. Hook the opposite end of the spring into the hole of the lower shoe webb.
WARRANTY INFORMATION:

single anchor pin brakes for on/off highway use.
NOTE: Warranty coverage applies only to products operating within Eaton application approval guidelines. Brake lining
