Elizabeth Case Study

Part 1
3) Goals are set for a relatively short period of time. If Elizabeth
continues to have suicidal thoughts it will hinder her ability to
initiate tasks and her willingness to participate in group. Also her
antisocial tendencies could pose a problem and will lengthen the
amount of time needed to accomplish treatment activities.

4) Elizabeth is highly intelligent and high functioning. She shows

motivation by choosing her goal as taking her finals in one month
with her classmates. She has a background of being hard working
and driven, all in which will assist in her achieving her goals.

11) Continue to discuss her enjoyment of gourmet cooking since it

is not a trigger for her anxiety and depression. Have her lead a
cooking experiment if there is a kitchen on the unit. If there isn’t a
kitchen, take the group to a gourmet restaurant and have her pick a
meal for each member and explain why or if leaving the unit isn’t
an option; role play the scenario.

12) To encourage her to interact with the group, have her lead in
planning a meal. Or have her demonstrate food prep or cutting
techniques to the group, with her working with each member one
on one. Also the OT team could have her prepare a presentation on
a topic of her choice and she must give it to the group with a
question and answer session following the conclusion of the
presentation.
Part 2
Group 1: Kitchen Skills
Activity 1: Line Cook Technique Demonstration
Each member must teach a technique used on a professional
kitchen line, must work one on one with each individual member
until everyone is performing the skill as demonstrated. (Ex:
Julienne carrots)

Rationale: Activity gives Elizabeth a chance to boost her self

esteem by demonstrating something she is good at as well as
forcing her to speak to each member working on her social
behavior and controlling her anxiety during public speaking which
is something she will have to do as a lawyer.

Group 2: Problem Solving

Activity 2: Group Impromptu Skit
OTA will write down different stress inducing situations and two at
a time group members will act out that situation and once finished
will discuss with the OTA and group members the reasoning of
their choices and actions during skit. (Ex: Wife asks husband for
divorce)

Rationale: Activity will address Elizabeth’s inability to handle

certain stressors as well as making her feel more involved in the
group as she witnesses how other members also have difficulty in
handling stress. Elizabeth will have to act on instinct during this
activity which will give the therapist more insight to her psyche,
she also has to interact with members while on stage in front of
others which will work on her social skills and discussing the way
she handles stressful situations and being taught options and
stress management techniques will aid in her therapy completion.
