FOLLOWING GOD DISCOVERY SERIES GRADE 4


FIRST QUARTER

LESSON 1 THE BIBLE HELPS ME MAKE WISE DECISIONS

KEY VERSE: Psalm 19:7-11

KEEP IT: “I treasure Your Word above all else; it keeps me from sinning against You” (Psalm 119:11)

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students will…

 explain how the Bible is God’s instruction manual and their road map for life.
 tell why it is important to study and obey the commands in the Bible.
 desire to study God’s Word, to love Him, and to grow as a Christian.

DISCOVER GOD: The Bible is God’s Word that gives directions for our lives.

1. LEARNING PLAN

Activity:

Introduction with Maps

Bring mock invitation with a separate corresponding road map, a gadget a picture of PlayStation Portable, a
Nintendo DS, or and iPod Touch, an instruction manual, and a Bible with a print out of Psalm 119:11 on pieces
of cartolina, folded inside its pages.

Begin the class by distribution copies of the invitation and pictures of the gadget to the groups as you lead
them to answer the activity.

LESSON 2 GOD’S TRUTH IN WORLD FULL OF LIES

KEY VERSE: Acts 5:1-11

KEEP IT: “We are part of the same body. Stop lying and start telling each other the truth” (Ephesians 4:25)

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students will…

 explain why lying is a sin.


 define what Bible says about lying.
 ask God to help them tell the truth even when it is difficult.

DISCOVER GOD: God loves truth-tellers.

1. LEARNING PLAN

Activity:

Ask the students if they can recall the Ten Commandments, which is found in Exodus 20 of the Bible, Can they
recall what the tenth commandment is?
“Do not tell lies about others.” Exodus 20:16

Distribute one of the following quotes to each student. Ask them to think about what these are saying, helping
them out with difficult words that they may encounter. Ask five students to explain their quotes according to
what they learned in their own experiences to prove why honesty is the right way and lying is the wrong way in
every situation.

Then direct them to recall instances when they told lies and what they felt as they did it and what they felt as
they tried to cover up the truth. Elicit answers on why lying feels so wrong.

LESSON 3 THE WORD OF GOD

LESSON 4 THE BIBLE: THE BOOK GOD GAVE US

 discuss how many books the Bible contains.


 enumerate at least three differences between the Old Testament and the New Testament

1. LEARNING PLAN

Activity:

The authors of the books in the Bible were ordinary men from all walks of life Search from the scrambled
letters to find some of the professions or status of authors who wrote the Holy Bible. Although they wrote fom
different places in a span of 600 years, their writings had only one unified theme. You are to find ten; as you
so, write the words on the blanks.

LESSON 5 I CAN BENEFIT FROM THE BIBLE

KEY VERSE: Zechariah 3:1-7

KEEP IT: “Everything God says is true – and it’s a shield for all who come to him for safety” (Proverbs 30:5)

 enumerate benefits of studying the Bible.


 note that the Bible contains stories with messages for their lives.
 use Bible verses to live by.

1. LEARNING PLAN

Activity:

Bullying is a serious going on everywhere – in schools, work place, even at home. Have you encountered a
bully? A bully is someone who pushes you around. He or she is the one who tells you that you are a nerd, a
sissy, or ugly. He or she is the one who singles you out and tells everyone not to dare be friends with you. Pray
to God that He spares you from one. If there is one at the moment, pray to God that he or she experiences
God in his or her life because, honestly these bullies live in a word of lies. The lies they give you are the very
lies they think about themselves.

LESSON 6 OBEDIENCE TO GOD’S WORD

KEY VERSE: Romans 8:1-8

KEEP IT: "Because anyone whose thinking is controlled by their sinful self is against God. They refuse to obey
God’s law, and really they are not able to obey it” (Romans 8:7)

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students will…

 learn the importance of obeying God’s Word.


 surrender all the stubbornness in their lives to God.
 obey God’s Word and keep it in their heart.

DISCOVER GOD: God wants me to obey His Word.

1. LEARNING PLAN

Activity:

Walking with the Lord

Aim:
1. To show a lost child that “a walk” without Jesus cannot take him to heaven.
2. To show a saved child that he should confess his sin daily to keep his “walk” with the Lord clean, and that
sin never leaves a Christian a better person.

SECOND QUARTER

LESSON 1 WHY IS THERE EVIL IN THE WORLD?

KEY VERSE: Genesis 3:1-6

KEEP IT: “Don’t let evil defeat you, but defeat evil with good” (Romans 12:21)

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students will…

 explain why there is evil in the world.


 begin to appreciate God’s love and forgiveness.
 thank God for sending His Son Jesus so they can be saved.

DISCOVER GOD: God sent His Son Jesus to save us.

1. LEARNING PLAN

Activity:

This topic is doubtless, one of the greatest questions still being struggled with both by Christian theology and
secular philosophy. Evil and its effects have been discussed powerfully by the book of Job, which you may find
helpful in your personal study.

What should I do about all of the evil? Do I stand a chance against it? How do I live with all of this around me?

LESSON 2 WHY DO PEOPLE DIE?

KEY VERSE: Romans 5:12, 17-19

KEEP IT: “Sin pays off with death. But God’s gift is eternal life given by Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23)

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students will…

 understand that death is a result of man’s first sin.


 understand that there are two kinds death: physical and spiritual.
 live each day for God.
 thank God for the gift of life.

DISCOVER GOD: God is God of hope.

1. LEARNING PLAN

Open the lesson by correcting this lesson with the previous one. Ask the students to recall the passage in
Genesis that they read. Point out that when evil came into the world, it had many negative effects on people as
well as nature and the world we live in.

LESSON 3 DOES GOD ANSWER PRAYER?

KEY VERSE: Matthew 6:7-13

KEEP IT: “Stay joined to Me and let My teachings become part of you. Then you can pray for whatever you
want, and your prayer will be answered” (John 15:7)

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students will…

 define prayer and identify the proper attitude that Christians should have toward prayer.
 appreciate that God always answers prayer according to His perfect will.
 desire to have a daily talk with God in prayer.

DISCOVER GOD: God wants to have a daily talk with you through prayer.

1. LEARNING PLAN

Activity:

Take a cellphone with a voice recording app and go around the classroom before class and have about 5-10
people speak a sentence or two “to the class”. They should be careful not to say their names. Write down for
yourself who spoke and in what order!

What Can I Hear? If we listen carefully we can hear God’s small still voice in a big way.

LESSON 4 WHY ARE THERE RICH AND POOR?

KEEP IT: “Those who trust in their riches will fall like dead leaves but good people will blossom” (Proverbs
11:28)

 learn that Jesus taught about wealth.


 explain why some people are rich and others are poor.
 express their trust that God will supply all their needs.

DISCOVER GOD: God knows your needs.

1. LEARNING PLAN

“What are some things you want in life?” Take input from the students and write their answers on the board.
Write answers regarding material possessions on the left side of the board and answers of eternal significance
on the right side of the board.

LESSONS 5 SAY NO TO TEMPTATION

KEY VERSE: 2 Corinthians 6:14-18

KEEP IT: “This hope makes us keep ourselves holy, just as Christ is holy” (1 John 3:3)

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students will…

 understand what the Bible is telling them about temptation.


 tell ways they can avoid temptation.
 obey God and keep His Word in their lives so they can avoid temptation.

DISCOVER GOD: God want you to avoid temptation.

1. LEARNING PLAN

Falling to resist temptation will leave a student open to sin. Let’s face it– students are naturally impulsive.
Students need to have the spiritual skill set necessary to be victorious continuously. These object lessons will
demonstrate the importance of resisting temptation and show students how to do it

LESSON 6 IS IT MY FAULT?

 begin to know right from wrong and learn from their mistakes.

Activity:

Read to class John 9:1-12 when Jesus healed a man who was blind from birth. Then, the disciple asked Him
an intriguing question, “Who sinned that this man was born blind, he or his parents?”

THIRD QUARTER

LESSON 1 HUMBLED JOSEPH

KEY VERSE: Genesis 37:39-41

KEEP IT: “Consider yourself fortunate if God All-Powerful chooses to correct you” (Job 5:17)

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students will…

 identify the characteristics that Joseph had before he was humbled by God.
 realize that God corrects them of their negative behavior.
 write a prayer to God aking Him to help them correct their negative behavior.

DISCOVER GOD: God discipline you lovingly.

Activity:

Raise your hand if you like giving stuff up. Like if I asked you to give up your tablet, phone, or your favorite
stuffed animal or that new toy from Christmas, how many of you would say, “Yes! I want to! Please let me give
it away…NOW!”

LESSON 2 DAVID TRUSTED GOD

 identify situations when David showed trust in God.

Form a group of five. Discuss incidents of bullying that you have experienced.

Activity:

Print out enough copies of “What’s My Reputation.” Photocopy activity sheet to give to each child. After the
class completes the activity, explain to them how easy it is to get a reputation.
