Cottontail Pullover

parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. To follow pattern
more easily, circle all numbers pertaining to your size before beginning.
MATERIALS

§ #100 White 1 (1, 1) ball (A)
§ #187 Buttercup 1 (1, 1) ball (B)
• Lion Brand® crochet hook size G-6 (4
mm)
• Lion Brand® stitch markers
• Lion Brand® large-eyed blunt needle
GAUGE
15 sts = about 5 in. (12.5 cm); 12 rows = about 4 1/4 in. (10.5 cm) over Rows 2 and
3 of Back.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
STITCH EXPLANATIONS
dc2tog (dc 2 sts together) (Yarn over, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop,
yarn over and draw through 2 loops) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops
on hook – 1 st decreased. Note: A dc2tog may be worked over any 2 sts. The sts
could be dc, sc, or a ch-1 sp.
dc3tog (dc 3 sts together) (Yarn over, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop,
yarn over, draw through 2 loops) 3 times, yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on
hook – 2 sts decreased.
NOTES
1. Pullover is made from 2 pieces: Back and Front.
2. The sleeves are worked directly from around the armholes.
3. Bunny is worked separately and then sewn to Pullover.
4. The yarn amounts are sufficient to make 2 Pullovers – by simply reversing the
colors on the second.

BACK
With A, ch 34 (38, 42).
Row 1 (RS): (Sc, ch 1, dc) in 2nd ch from hook, *sk next ch, (sc, ch 1, dc) in next
ch; rep from * to last 2 ch, sk next ch, sc in last ch – you will have 16 (18, 20) (sc,
ch 1, dc) groups in this row.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, *sk next st, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, (sc, ch 1, dc) in first st, *sk next st, (sc, ch 1, dc) in next st; rep
from * to last 2 sts, sk next st, sc in top of beg ch-3 – 16 (18, 20) (sc, ch 1, dc)
groups.
Rep Rows 2 and 3 until piece measures about 7 (7, 8) in. (18, 18, 20.5) cm) from
beg, end with a WS row as the last row you work.
Place a marker on each end of last row to indicate beg of armholes.
SHAPE ARMHOLES
Row 1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, dc3tog, *(sc, ch 1, dc) in next st,
sk next st; rep from * to last 5 sts, (sc, ch 1, dc) in next st, dc3tog, dc in top of beg
ch-3 – 13 (15, 17) (sc, ch 1, dc) groups.
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, sk first st, dc in next st (beg ch-2 and following dc count as one
dc2tog), *sk next st, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next sc; rep from * to last 2 sts,
dc2tog – 28 (32, 36) dc.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sk first st, *(sc, ch 1, dc) in next st, sk next st; rep from * to last
st, sc in last st – 13 (15, 17) (sc, ch 1, dc) groups.
next sc; rep from * across – 27 (31, 35) dc.

front neck and right shoulder – 3 (4, 5) (sc, ch 1, dc) groups.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first 2 sts, dc2tog (working over next ch-1 sp
and following sc), *sk next st, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next sc; rep from * across –
6 (8, 10) dc.

Rnd 1: From RS, join A at underarm seam of one armhole, ch 1, work 31 (35, 39)
sc evenly spaced around armhole; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, dc in each st around; join with sl st in first
dc.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, turn, (sc, ch 1, dc) in first st, *sk next st, (sc, ch 1, dc) in next st; rep
from * to last 2 sts, sk next st, sc in last st; join with sl st in first sc – 15 (17, 19) (sc,
ch 1, dc) groups.
Rnd 4: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, dc in first sc, *sk next st, dc in next ch-1

Rep Rnds 3 and 4 until sleeve measures about 8 1/2 (9 1/2, 10) in. (21.5 (24, 25.5)
cm).
Last 2 Rnds: Ch 1, do not turn, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc.
Fasten off.
Rep around opposite armhole for second sleeve.
BUNNY
BODY
Beg at center with B, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with sl st in first sc – 6 sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc – 12 sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; join with sl st in first sc – 18 sc.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; join with sl st in first sc – 24 sc.
Do not fasten off.


Cottontail Pullover
HEAD
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, sc in next 6 sts; leave rem sts unworked – 6 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in last st – 8 sc.
Rows 3 and 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 5: Turn, sc2tog, sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog – 6 sc.
Row 6: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 7: Turn, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog – 4 sc.
Do not fasten off.
EARS AND EDGING

Rnd 1: Ch 5, dc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch (first
ear made); sc in each st of Row 7 of Head; ch 5, dc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next
ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch (second ear made); working in end of rows of Head,
sc evenly spaced along side of Head to just before Body, sl st in Head, sl st in sp
between Head and Body, sl st in Body, sc evenly spaced along side edge of Body,
sl st evenly spaced along bottom of Body, sc evenly spaced along other side edge
of Body to just before Head, sl st in Body, sl st in sp between Body and Head; sl st
in Head, sc evenly spaced along side of Head; join with sl st at base of first ear.
Fasten off.
TAIL POM-POM
Wrap A around 2 fingers. Cut the yarn, then slide a doubled strand of yarn under
the wraps and knot.
Slip the pom-pom off your fingers and trim ends evenly.
Sew pom-pom to bunny.
FINISHING
NECK TRIM
From RS, join yarn at neck edge with a sl st in shoulder seam, ch 1, sc evenly spaced
around neck edge; join with sl st in first sc.
Fasten off.
With B and blunt needle, sew bunny to front of Pullover.
Weave in ends.
