Statement of Purpose for Master of Information Technology & Systems specialization in
Big Data Management and Analytics
Starting career as a banker in the most data-intensive financial service industry, I have experienced a remarkable paradigm shift in the use cases of data management in local as well as global banking environment over the last nine more years. What I have experienced in my initial stage of banking journey such as manual systems like book banking, token number and customer catalog maintenancehas evolved into modern concepts like electronic database, system entry, e- KYC, data communications and networking technology in the recent period. It has left me fascinated with Information Technology and systems. Again, the fun part is, as serving customers as a general banker through ‘eIBS’, a core banking platform in branches, I first confronted with the real magic of data when moved to bank’s Business Promotion & Marketing Division where I worked first on customer analytics. Having worked with consumer behavior and data analytics, product design and development, operation and Desktop support for several years I have gained an in-depth practical knowledge of its importance and business applications. It grows my confidence, make me feel that I am ready to take the challenge and pushed me a mile further for moving forward into the field of information technology and systems. So forth, to keep me up with the advancements in this field and prepare myself to meet the demanding standards of this industry, I wish to pursue a Master of Information Technology and Systems specialization in Big Data Management and Analytics from your esteemed University. I strongly believe that after graduation, I will be a creative problem solver by integrating information technology and systems with effective management strategies, adept at using the latest technology of big data analytics to find the business solutions in banking and more avenues ahead. I have completed my Secondary School Certificate examination securing 1 st division with distinction from Abidpur High School & College in 1999 under Comilla Education Board. Then, I completed my Higher Secondary Certificate examination obtaining 1st division from Adhyapak Aubdul Mojid College in 2001 under the same education board. Studying in Science in both my SSC & HSC, I then admitted to Victoria Govt. College, Comilla under National University, Bangladesh to pursue my Bachelor of Arts in English securing 2 nd class in the year 2010. Accordingly, I completed my Master of Arts in English from the same institution securing 2 nd class in 2011. Presently, I am working as Senior Officer and team leader of Policy, Planning and IT Operational Support department of Agent & Booth Banking Division (ABBD) from 03.07.2017 to till date in Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, a renowned private bank which has been selected as the only bank from Bangladesh in top 1000 banks of the world by the century old financial magazine ‘The Banker’ for consecutive four years from 2016 to 2019. Here, I develop various business policies and plans analyzing customer data matrix for Agent Banking operations, the large Fintech initiative of the Bank. I also works in ensuring continuous improvement of Integrated Agent Banking System (IABS) for making it agent friendly. Besides, I provide operational IT supports to the Agent Officials. Earlier, I was in Bank’s Business Promotion and Marketing Division (BPMD) from 15.12.2013 to 03.07.2017 where I specially developed ‘IBBL ‘Khidmah’ credit card’, ‘IBBL Hajj Card’ and ‘IBBL Business Expense Card’ in a team setting for the Bank. I also designed ‘EMI’ plan for Bank’s only credit card using consumer behavior and data matrix. I also worked there on designing and implementing a product namely ‘mCash’, a mobile financial service platform, the first Fintech of the Bank as a team leader. I also gained practical banking knowledge on investment and foreign exchange by serving two branches of the Bank before joining at BPMD. I worked with some renowned organizations like World Bank, International Finance Corporation, Microsave, VISA, Mastercard and Kroll and actively participated in different technical as well as development projects. In this banking journey, I was introduced to various new concepts of Computer Science like data structure, algorithms, and database management system by working. Along with that I also learned the basics of programing, data management and business analytics from various MOOCs platform and Bangladeshi technical course providers for the interest of my job prospect and self-development. I have acquired problem-solving skills, demonstrated the ability to collect, analyze and interpret information and fundamental computer skills through my working in the IT operation and support sector during my professional career. I developed the interpersonal and communication skills during working in the business development strategy & planning sector. It is very important to express thoughts logically and to write clearly, correctly and concisely that I learned during working in the development and planning team. I have proven my excellence to interact effectively with others, including the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Thus, my experience of learning by working has motivated me to study big data management and analytics in detail. After deciding to study in information technology and systems, I made a research of many universities of Australia so that I will get 100 percent surety for choosing the right study destination. After a meticulous analysis of my need, subject offered along with quality of faculty, UTAS became my first preference. Apart from its outstanding teaching and research program, the University of Tasmania is a high-quality postgraduate research center for international researchers and is acclaimed for promoting intellectual integrity and funding its graduate students. I believe, a Master's Program in information technology and systems, especially in big data management and analytics from your esteemed University completely corresponds to my aspiration. The courses like Data Management Technology (KIT712), Human Computer Interaction (KIT613), Data Analytics (KIT606) as well as Advanced Big Data and Cloud Computing (KIT418) will surely help me in finding out how big data is solving real world challenges in finance industry or healthcare industry and many more. This program will also help me to gain hands-on experience with various big data tools and will teach me the way to overcome unique challenges binding two fields - technology and business, thus creating a professional who can analyze various hidden patterns in a database, enabling organizations to make well-informed decisions. Besides, when I come to know that UTAS has a Human Interface Technology Lab (HITLab), I immediately understand that it is the place for me. Another catalyst helps me to decide to get admitted to MITS is the unique feature of providing non-ICT students with broad knowledge and understanding of fundamental information and communication technology concepts and principles. And the least but not the last, the expertise of the faculty members of Computing and IT department of the University of Tasmania also allures me to make my choice. The interaction and exposure with these world renowned professors and their research works and creative teaching will surely help me to make a perennial contribution to my home country as well as the globe. So, for all these reasons, I have chosen to study information technology and systems specialization in big data management and analytics at this university. As my aspiration, I searched a lot to find a suitable study destination. After assessing factors like quality education & infrastructure, admission process time, political stability, healthcare as well as culture & environment, I choose Australia for my further study as it gives world class education at a reasonable price. I believe that Australia is a disciplined country and one of the best places to gain higher education. Both the Australian government and universities provide enormous benefits for international students. International students have the opportunity to learn valuable knowledge at a cheaper rate than many other European countries. Countries like U.K and U.S.A, the living expenses and tuition fees are very high and in Singapore, less scope of study-work makes them less preferable to me. According to international students, this country is regarded as a welcoming country with unique culture that embraces diversity. Safety is an essential thing that international students must consider during the higher study. From small towns to urban centers, Australia is deliberated as one of the safest countries in the world for international students. That's why I choose Australia as a destination country for higher study. Furthermore, the fun part of choosing Australia is my two personal choices. Firstly, I am an ardent lover of cricket and secondly, I am a fan of MasterChef Australia. Again, my preference to Tasmania is also for Tasmanian cherry along with its multicultural diversity and affinity with Asian lifestyle. With an intention to study in my home country, I searched for many Universities but did not find any one which provide my expected course as per my requirement. Even though many universities provide full time Master in Information Technology, I am unable to get admitted into these course as I am a full time employee of a Bank. Again, evening masters course is also unavailable at present due to University Grant Commission’s (the country’s only controlling authority for Universities in Bangladesh) prohibition of the same. Besides, I want to have an international degree and exposure which will surely facilitate a significant improvement in my career. After getting that degree and returning home I can utilize my experience and knowledge in my home country. As my country lacks specialized resource person in data management sector, it will be enough to get a competitive job in Bangladesh for me. Hence, I dream to start a data management consultancy farm of my own. So, I am eagerly waiting for an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the research and development program at your esteemed university. If you offer me the opportunity to the Master of Information Technology and Systems specialization in Big Data Management and Analytics at your prestigious university, I will make the best use of the occasion. I declare that the particulars given above are true and correct in every detail. I understand that incorrect or misleading statement may result in refusal of my admission and/or visa application.
