ACTIVITIES: I. PRE-LESSON (5 minutes)

1. Pupils are shown three pictures, one picture of a water bottle, a


coca-cola and a grape juice box

2. Pupils are asked to name the things in the pictures.


3. Pupils are asked which one among the three they wish to buy and
why.
4. Pupils are nominated to share their answers.
5. Pupils listen to the explanation as a class.
Water is a basic need for a person while coca-cola and the grape
juice box are a choice for a person.
6. Pupils listen to the introduction of the lesson which is needs and
wants in purchasing.

II. LESSON DEVELOPMENT (35 minutes)


ACTIVITY 1

1. Pupils listen to the explanation about the meaning and differences of


needs and wants.
2. Pupils listen to the examples of things we need and want to
purchase.
3. Pupils listen to the explanation about making the right decision in
purchasing things we need and want.

ACTIVITY 3
1. Pupils are put in groups of 4.
2. Pupils are given an empty chart labelled needs and wants
respectively in two columns.
3. Pupils are given a set of 10 pictures for each group.
4. Pupils are instructed to paste the pictures according to the needs or
wants column.
5. Pupils compare their answers with other groups.
6. Pupils are nominated to present their chart as a group with the class.
7. Pupils check and discuss the charts as a class.
ACTIVITY 2
1. Pupils are shown 5 different scenarios written on the mah-jong

paper.
2. Pupils are nominated to read the scenario and identify whether each
purchase in the scenario is a need or want.
3. Pupils are asked to come forward and write the answer on the board.
4. Pupils check and discuss the answers as a class.

Scenarios:
1. Your socks are worn out, so you go to the store to buy new ones. (N)
2. Your family has a brand new swimming pool put in the backyard.
(W)
3. Your mother takes your sister to the eye doctor and buys her a pair
of glasses. (N)
4. You buy paper and markers so you can make your grandmother a
special card for Mother’s Day. (W)

III. POST-LESSON (20 minutes)

ACTIVITY 1
1. Pupils are instructed to remain in their groups.
2. Pupils are instructed to discuss in groups and draw out one thing that
they need and one thing they want in a given mah-jong paper.
3. Pupils are reminded to provide reasons as well for their need and
want drawn.
4. Pupils are observed as they complete their worksheet.
5. Pupils are nominated to share with the class their pictures drawn as
well as the reasons for it.

The whole lesson is recapped.
