1. Define Unconscious Bias


We tend to magnify differences between ourselves and ‘out-groups’ and exaggerate similarities
between ourselves and ‘in-groups’.

I think they have certain beliefs they are brought up or raised with that reflects how they teach.
4. Describe a time when you experienced unconscious bias.
In my gym class the teacher was sexist and bent the rules for the girls so they could keep playing.
5. Do you think unconscious bias affects the way a teacher grades or treats students?
Explain.
Yes, I think it could. I think it happens rarely if at all and is done without thought. If done I
would recommend doing gut feeling and thinking of it less so bias doesn’t take place.
6. How can a teacher avoid practicing unconscious bias? List Examples.
-Guts feeling- when in time pressure less likely to think and do unconscious bias.
-Anonymous markings
-Classwork be typed instead of handwritten
