RFID Products For Veterinary Use

Microchip tags, using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) are now widely used to provide pet owners with peace
of mind and to help farmers provide the traceability of livestock needed to promote public confidence in food
safety. RFID tags also provide a means to identify laboratory animals, simplifying the collection of experimental
data. Tagging has proved its value in helping to track and trace both domestic and farm animals. Soon EU
Legislation will require all equines to be tagged.
CoreRFID specialises in supplying the technology needed for animal tagging and checking; offering tags, injectors,
and readers.
CoreRFID are specialists in RFID with over 12 years experience in tagging and tracing systems. As a long standing
member of the BSAVA’s Microchip Advisory Group (MAG), CoreRFID keeps in touch with the latest developments
in the needs of veterinary practices and uses this knowledge to ensure that our products are compatible with
relevant standards and legislation as well as with companion
animal repatriation services such as PetLog.

Injectable Animal Tags

CoreRFID provides injectable animal tags that conform to the ISO
11784/5 standard for animal tags. These 12mm long “grain of rice” tags,
pre-encoded with unique identity numbers, come in boxes containing a
reusable injector, 12 sterile one-time needles and tags each with six self
adhesive barcode strips with the same number. This allows for tags and
accompanying documentation to be linked one to another.
ISO 11784/5 is the standard used for companion animal repatriation
systems based on RFID animal tagging (such as PetLog) and for
identification of animals for DEFRA’s PETS (Pets Travel Scheme). PETS
depends on a Pet Passport which uses an RFID chip to allow animals to
travel between those countries subscribing to the scheme.

These tags are also available in a non-ISO version (EM4102) for research animal use and for use in wildlife tracking or similar
scientific use.
