Hovnanian trims fiscal 4Q loss on smaller charges
LOS ANGELES — Hovnanian Enterprises Inc. says it
trimmed its fiscal fourth quarter loss as the homebuilder
booked smaller land-related write-downs versus a year ago.
But slowing homebuyer demand led to a 13 percent drop in
new home contracts for the quarter.
The company said Tuesday it lost $132.1 million, or $1.68 a
share, for the three months ended in October. That compares
with a loss of $250.8 million, or $3.21 a share, in the prior-year
period.
Revenue dropped to $353 million from $437.4 million the
year before.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters were expecting a loss
of 66 cents a share on revenue of about $288.1 million.
Hovnanian is based in Red Bank, N.J.
